Well, I would pick the Pacifica over a 1999 120k Lexus GS.. It actually is a very nice vehicle the Pacifica, and reminds me of the R class Mercedes as far as genre (same family). Not as troublesome as some peg it to be, and you will love it.. Go for it

If you're posting this in other forums, definitely no one will recommend a high mileage car.
However, most of us with the 100k mile gs know how reliable the gs is from experience.

We looked at the pacifica (just for fun) before getting the gx.
It was all right, felt cramped, speed was adequate, but no way the price was worth it (new though).

Pacifica is great over the gs for short term, warranty?, and hauling 5+ people/cargo. I don't remember if it folds completely down due to the 2nd row center arm rest/hump?

HOw much for the pacifica and the gs that you're looking at?

Ask yourself...one car has 4x the mileage, but is in the running. Must be for a reason, huh?

I hate to be the **** here... but if you really have to ask, you should get the pacifica!

I have a rule: you must have your head up your *** to purchase a minivan. That being said, take notice of them in trafic... the owners are idiots!

End of rant

Do what is right for you.

Do you have children and or dogs? For you to be looking at and trying to choose between a sedan and a sportish minivan is interesting for they both are completely different from one another so choose one that caters better to your needs or get neither. I'd say look for a nice MDX if you need the room and find youself a GS with lower miles.

I think a lot of people on here are exaggerating the reliability of the GS. I had a GS for 8 months from last July till this March, and it cost me a lot of money in routine maintenance. Just look at the GS forum and you'll see how common the following problems are: Failed starter ($1000 repair), bad ball joints (a few hundred, and if they fail while you're driving you'll lose control of your car), failed door actuators (WAY too expensive to replace), worn engine/transmission mounts, low/rough idle, problems with the Nakamichi stereo speakers, steering wheel vibration, sunroof rattles etc.

Not to mention that a GS with that mileage will need the timing belt replaced which is another $1000 job. It's not only not that reliable (although the engine, body and transmission are pretty solid) little things cost an outrageous amount to replace

That said, the Pacifica is garbage, I wouldn't get one of those either. If you get the GS though, make sure you have some money saved for repairs

This is the most unusual cross-shop I've ever seen.

You need to decide what TYPE of vehicle you really need. It's not so much a question of Lexus vs. Chrysler in this situation since both cars are as different as night and day.

i also think part of it depends on how long u wanna keep said car for ... if u only want the car for a year then it really doesnt matter ...

personally, i'd take the lex; it wont leave me stranded or randomly break, or have misc rattles, etc etc ... my lex [is not gs] is @ 111xxx now, and it's fine, one minor problem thats being fixed next week, and i wouldn't be trading if for a newer chrysler ...

that said: i'm confused why the choice is a pacifica or a gs ... they're different cars generally used for different things

i'm kinda w. Milla... on this, maybe u need to be looking for something like an MDX/RX/FX

I would pick that GS, only instead of the 2000 I would pick 2001. As long as it's clean and in good mechanical condition, its a much better car.

As I said before, I had my GS for 8 months and it ended up costing me a decent amount of money during that time, and if I had kept it around a few more months it would have cost me even more

My Wife's Sebring cost us about the same to maintain/repair in 6 years and 60,000 miles as it would have cost to buy a brand new loaded Civic EX or Acura RSX.

No I'm NOT kidding. And that was WITH the highest level of extended warranty available.

So yeah, I'd take a 100k+ lexus over a brand new chrysler with a full warranty....
