EV ftw!!!
I am curious to know why anyone would think Lexus should worry about this.
Not trying to put down Hyundai, but I can't imagine why anyone would cross shop any Lexus with this car.

Yeah, it's true I would not touch a Hyundai with a 20 ft pole,
but there are MANY who have no such qualms about buying Azeras
and Sonatas.
Edit : The pricing on this thing also seems right (under 30K to start,
probably mid to high 30's nicely equipped). It may be a contender.

Truthfully, this car is probably going to put a huge hurting on the Avalon.
It looks better, has more power, and more amenities, and will cost less. It has a unique position of being RWD, but the only other sedans in this segment that are RWD (300 and Charger) aren't necessarily luxurious or all that prestigious. I doubt even the next Impala will be able to top this.
This car seriously spells trouble for Toyota/Honda/Nissan and probably even the ES 350, RL, and TL.

Looks decent, but the front looks way too much like a Camry and looks more like a fwd mid size v-6 family sedan then a larger rwd v-8 luxury sedan. If the price is well under 30K like the article says then this car will be a hell of a bargain and offer alot of car for the money especially compared to its 50K+ competition. I would like to see Hyundia start an umpmarket brand like Lexus, Acura, Infiniti and offer some more cars off this platform like a luxury coupe, sports car, larger flagship, smaller sports sedan, etc. I really think they should change the front end grill treatment for something a little more upscale looking and I hope the do a good job on the interior. I think this car will sell very well if it is executed right. At under 30K it will be priced where optioned out fwd v-6 Accords and Camry's are at but offer rwd, v-8 torque/smoothness, and possibly real wood, high quality leather, and other options not available in Accords and Camry's.

Toyota's fear of Hyundai lies in the fact that Hyundai is using Toyota's own business strategy against them. Cut price cars with more equipment than the competition, for less money. Hyundai is also using the old tech from Toyota's and Honda's suppliers, so many of the parts that they buy and use have already been perfected by those two.
It's a mean game.

However I would not never cross shop any current Lexus car with this Genesis Hyundai.

If they say the car is priced under 30K, and have V8 with RWD platform, I would cross shop this car with ES350 and IS250 if I am in the market for one.

i dont think lexus or acura has anything to worry about since they're well established. however i think infiniti should be worried because they were the bargain brand that was on the upcoming, now it looks like hyundai is slowing creepin up on them.

There are reasons for that, marshmallo. If you don't want to take my word for it, then go look at these cars for yourself and see what kind of workmanship and quality they now offer for the money. You are obviously a car guy, like me, so I know you have at least some interest in the auto world......otherwise you wouldn't be a regular part of CAR CHAT. Trust me......there are lots worse ways to spend your spare time than looking at new cars. I've been doing it for some 40 years.
