When do you get a new car?
For those who lease, it's an easy answer. For those who purchase, how do you decide and when do you get a new whip? Every 5 years? Every 100k miles? Whenever you get a new car itch, no matter the timeline? Drive it till it dies? In which case, what does "dies" mean to you? Repair bill > residual value of car? Totalled by insurance company?
Curious what some of y'all do, especially since I haven't completely decided myself what I want to do.

There's this guy near my house who owns what seems to be three NSX's - two red and one yellow. Dunno the years and I can't differentiate them by quick glances, not a big enough NSX buff. Just thought I'd share, since you seem to be one of the bigger NSX fans on this board.
Follow-up question for y'all: When you do get rid of your car, how do you get rid of it? Sell it on ebay? Trade in at dealer? Advertise private party in the newspaper or on craigslist? Donate to charity? Total out for insurance in an accident? Sell it for scrap metal to a junkyard?
Again, just curious how others do it, as I'm not sure how I'd proceed. (And again, if you lease it's a pretty easy answer.)
Nope, no problems. Just moving to NYC and not sure whether I want to keep it or not.

If the car is a car I still really like and is still in a great shape I generally sell it to a family member or friend for pretty cheap. I'd rather see them get a good deal and be happy with the car than make a few extra thousand. If it is a car I just don't like anymore or starting to get a little rough around the edges, I just take the hit and trade it in. So far of my good cars a friend or family member has always jumped on the chance to buy it from me. The ones I traded in I just wanted to get rid of them.

As far as totalling it goes, an honest totalling ( like from an accident, storm damage, carjacking, etc.....) is one thing, but a deliberate "totalling" just to collect the insurance money is insurance fraud and, in most places, a serious offense.
I've done it several different ways...selling to family or friends, selling to strangers (I even sold one of my old Mazdas to my former Division Chief at work....that's how much he trusted me), selling to dealerships, and trading-in.

My eye starts to wander when the body style changes -- especially if it looks better than the 1 I currently have. Another milestone for the car hunt would be @ 100,000 miles -- I do not like dealing w/ repairs so I like to get rid of em before spending the time/$$$ on such things.
