Never get tired of seeing this
i always stay right next to the nozzle until i'm doing filling her up. Never do I go back into the car. Really, how long does it take to fill up the gas tank that you have to go inside the car to wait?
edit: Although, having lived in MN for the first 35 years of my life, there were times when I left the nozzle pumping and went back into the car.... when it's -15° below zero, and the wind is howling at 30 MPH, standing outside for any amount of time isn't very comfortable.
In FL, it's not even possible to walk away, because they remove all the hold latches from the pump nozzles. You have to hold the lever, or it won't pump.

Same here in my state. They remove the latches so you have to physically hold the lever down by hand. Or you can wedge your gas cap in there to keep it down, but that is illegal here I think. Anyway, because of that I don't recall any incident like this happening in my state.
LOL, I was once driving from MA to NY, and I left my gas cap on top of a pump in MA. I was already in Rhode Island, about 100 miles away from the gas station when I noticed my fuel door open. I freaked out, because I heard that driving without a gas cap can cause check engine light and whatsnot, so I actually drove back to get it.
At least if people were in Oregon, they'd have someone to blame to losing their gas cap or taking the hose with you. haha
That's the new optional dealer installed item, it's used by moms everywhere to whip those annoying little brats and their stubborn husbands who forgotten that mommy wears the pant in america to get their asses back in the van.
Was it still there when you went back? haha... I would be so pissed if when I got back there it wasnt even there anymore! Actually, with that in mind I probably wouldnt even have drive the 100 miles back there. Did you have to fill up again when you got there? haha

It's because of the stupidity of people like the one in the pic that convenience features like this are taken away. The gas stations also have a sign that says not to wedge anything in the pump to keep it running, lol. People always wedge their gas caps in them.
I've never seen anyone do this, but I have seen the pictures on the net before... probably on here come to think of it. I've also never seen anyone wedge their gas cap in the handle either though. Didn't know anyone did. Of course, then again most places I go still have the pump latches. I don't use them though. I'd rather stay there & pump. I don't trust the pumps, and I'm too forgetful anyways.
Och, if I had been in your situation, I would've just bought another gas cap. Not sure where you'd get one at 3am though. Wal-Mart might have them...

Yeah, I stopped at a gas station but obviously they didn't have them, so I decided to just drive back and get if. It was back in like 2001 or 2002 I think, and it was a brand new MDX, and I wasn't sure if stores like Autozone would have it, and if the dealer would have it in stock and I didn't wanna take chances.
youre not supposed to go back inside the car b/c it could create static electricity while youre back in the car.
