Escort

I have had the Escort Passport 8500 X50 for 3 years now, and I can honestly say that it has gotten me out of more tickets and speed traps than i could possibly count on all my fingers and toes. My dad, who was on the road a lot as a salesman, has used Escort products since the 80's and he swears buy them. if you get a nice stretch of road, you will pick up signals from reallly far away. and what is nice is the feature i use. it can pick up more than one type of radar at the same time. there are 3: K, X, and the newer super-wide band Ka. Also laser, which if they dont shoot the car in front of you, you are screwed. Detector or no detector. also, it looks great too, especially in blue which compliments the dash lighting of our cars. the Valentine is ugly. hope this heps ya, go with Escort!

going off on a tangent here... but just saw on the news that the chp is starting to use lidar in the san fernando valley. it seems like all they do is sit on top of an overpass n shoot cars passing under. they radio ahead n have a unit pull over the speeder. it seems like an assembly line to pull over speeders hahah.

the passport/beltronics are the same thing but really good. the valentine v1 is very good, but its $100 more(but then again it has arrows to show where the radar is comeing from).

Hey dkcivic, checkout this site, it gives great reviews on all the radar detectors:

the latest radar from escort, the 9500i, is killing all other dash mounted radar detectors available...even the V1. its pricey at $450, but its the one i went with (ordered, on backorder). its radar and lazer, looks nice. no arrows, but hear a beep...slow down...doesnt matter to me where it coming from. it falses less than any other due to its GPS capibilites of memorizing falsing spots.

i'll let you know how it works when i get it!

Having done the 30 day free test with a V1, I believe those arrows only help if you're deaf. The aural tones on most all tell you all you need to know and you can keep your eyes on the road. During convoy trips with many cars the only major difference we found was lots more false warnings with the V1, at any setting. It just seems too sensitive, and it's way too bulky for my taste, looking like it was manufactured in an Eastern Bloc country.

For a good looking portable, wireless, detector the Escort SOLO-2 can't be beat, and if you absolutely have to have the latest and greatest the new Escort 9500i is it. It tracks you with GPS, you can also use that GPS to warn about speed traps that people have found during their travels. It also has a USB port to connect to a computer for updates. Escort also owns 85% of all the radar patents in the USA.

Of course "best" is in the eyes of the beholder, and YMMV. :)

Srsly, normally I'm not a "search!" monkey, but that's just silly.
