Help me pick a new car for my mother-in-law

OK...Thanks, that clears things up a little bit. Looks like you got a pretty good handle on the situation. If she becomes too elderly to drive it before three years is up, she can always put it up for sale...and the money from it, of course, may be needed for her care. l

And......a suggestion.....with only 13K miles on it in 3 years, make sure it is driven enough to keep the oil clean and the battery charged. Both deteriorate quickly with non-use.
