Rolls Royce has just announced the addition of a new Bespoke Collection for its Drophead Coupe model, called the Waterspeed Collection. It was created to honor Sir Malcom Campbell’s water speed record attempt that took place on September 1, 1937, on Lake Como, in Italy.
Sir Malcom Campbell is an odd character for his time, simply because he is one of the few daredevils of his kind that actually died of natural causes, not horrible fireball-style accidents…
The bespoke features for this new special edition drop-top Rolls obviously features “a number of exclusively created Bespoke design and engineering features, perfectly executed to create a thoroughly contemporary tribute to Campbell’s famous craft.”
Only one exterior color will be available: a special shade, created for this limited edition model, called Maggiore Blue; it’s meant to evoke the shade applied to the hull of the record breaking speedboat piloted by Campbell in ’37.
The debut for the Waterspeed Collection will take place in two distinct locations: “the site of the original Bluebird Motor Company – now the Bluebird Restaurant – on the King’s Road, London on Tuesday 13 May 2014,” as well as the 2014 Concorso d’Eleganza held at Villa D’Este, that is to be held some ten days after the UK event.
