i bet you could actually argue the speed issue... you were speeding up to highway speed but then realized it was the wrong on ramp so you veered off. what's wrong with that?

i would have totally explained everything to the cop. also - i always keep my insurance in my wallet, that way i never have to dig around in the glove box.

i've been pulled over several times, arrested once, a few tickets, multiple photo radar tickets, etc...

the one thing that has helped me get out of tickets and has earned me warnings is putting up my hands when i get pulled over at night.

i roll down my windows, open the moonroof, and throw my hands up out the moonroof to let them know that i am not a threat. my cousin is a cop and when he first started out he mentioned how nerve racking it can be walking up to a dark tinted car and not knowing what's waiting for them inside.

so - if the cop ever asks about the hands up thing, i tell them the whole story about my cousin and they usually let me go with a warning because although i'm being pulled over, i'm being courteous.

What speed limit is it on the highway? What speed limit is the service road? Was there a sign indicating the new speed limit (after the point he supposedly got your speed)?

If you have not yet crossed over into the new speed zone, then he cannot ticket you (assuming the highway was a 55mph speed limit). Well, technically they could just reduce it to a 5mph ticket (which some lame counties will do, but they you can account the error to speedo/pacing error).

It you have not yet crossed over into the new speed zone, then it is a transitional zone, and the ticket would not hold up there either. I don't know about your state, but CA also has laws governing speed traps, which is speed enforcement within a certain distance of transitional zones. . .

As for breaking the law, yes I know I did....but I mean jeez the cop could of given me a little break. Maybe more warnings and less citations Also, what mrurmil said, cops are more nit picky if they see a car that is modded out VS a bone stock car. Don't argue it, you know I am right about that point.
IDK about everywhere but I know here in Louisiana they do this. I was pulled over for nothing because the group of lowerd cars were swerving in there lane avoiding speed bumps so the cops called for more units and pulled all 7 of us over, lol. Anyway, I had an expired card but I told him that I was current on my insurence so he just went and looked it up. No ticket for me!

You know what's funny. The police give out tickets for "failure to signal for lane change" but I have never ONCE seen a police cruiser signal for a lane change...E-V-E-R

Now...there has to be something wrong with that...

You sound like the victim of "smart mouth", a disorder for which I was the poster child. I found it doesn't pay to make demands of a cop with a ticket book in his hands; he can write all day. He probably knows his job description, that you pay his salary, and that your uncle isn't really a judge anyway. Anything that makes him late for his appointment at the Do-nut Hut, is probably going to be another mark against you. Oh, and avoid using words like "stupid", "badge-heavy", or "flatfoot" in your conversation with him; it only makes him write faster.

Seriously, proclaiming innocence and offering excuses probably doesn't help either. You won't adjudicate the case at the curb anyway, and you can get several tickets piled on for your efforts. Better to bite your lip, try to look contrite and take your lumps. The time to fight it is in front of the judge - when you've had a chance to think it over, gather evidence, prepare a defense, and even hire a lawyer, if needed.

Damn dog! Ease up the lead foot!

Drive safe and I hope you don't get any more...

Don't get me wrong--I'm not a cop, and my post isn't about passing judgment on the OP one way or the other...but--what is the deal with the "pacing is BS" stuff? I mean--how did you think cops determined how fast you were going before radar became commonplace? Not all cops try to determine your speed by timing how long it takes for you to travel between two fixed points--which BTW in more than a few states, is an illegal tactic to use in trying to catch speeders.

Not saying that you can't successfully argue your way out of a non-radar speeding ticket...but to say stuff like cops can't use pacing in order to figure out how fast you were going is bogus, to say the least.

actually speed pacing is a legitimate way of giving ppl speeding tickets because cop cars' speedos are calibrated and that they are trained in about 3~4 pacing methods

you could try to dispute it in traffic court and ask the cop when he last had the car's speedometre calibrated and how likely it is to be inaccurate and so on... but the judge is not likely to throw the ticket out of the court...

good luck
now go put ur insurance card in ur car!

i agree. a person should be allowed to veer wherever and whenever they want.....the driving public be damned!

seriously, don't be afraid to fight all charges. texas judges are known for being lenient pussycats, so good luck with that

Well, I've never gotten any tickets in my 5-6years of driving. Unless you count an expired inspection (2 months expired got it inspected and ticket was waived). Hopefully that will bode well against my case. If I need to do the defensive driving or probation stuff, what does it all involve? Do I still need to pay the ticket on top of the fees for the class or is the ticket fee waived after taking the class? I'm getting a lawyer tomorrow to help me out with all this stuff, but I just want to get a general idea beforehand what I should be prepared for. In terms of time and also financial obligations(fines ). Thanks all.
