Its the same on other websites. I commented on this behavioral pattern on edmunds which made some posters so mad that I was worried their heads would explode with all the rage that was boiling inside.
There are a few usernames such as tagman, brightness, blkhemi, nvbanker, merc1. Their only mission in life for past 6-7 years (thats when this forum mania started) is to post relentlessly dozens of posts under multiple usernames everyday, even on christmas.
From handwriting analysis as well as other ways, I figured out that these posters have same mercenery agenda.
So if a poster A has names: MercX, mercfanatic, mercfan, mbenzfanatic on four different forums, and if he has posted 5,000 posts on each (on an average mind you) in 3-4 years, his total contribution is 20,000+ posts. Thats a typical mercenery.
* He spends 5-6 hours everyday on these forums and God knows how much more.
* His whole life is centred within a tiny 3X4 feet space with a box, keyboard, mouse and coke and chips.
* He jabbers a great deal on the forums and always has a set agenda and a frog in the well mind.
* He posts dozens of posts on multiple forums everyday rather than 1-2 at most or occasionally.
The other category of dedicated posters is: Admins and Mods etc. These are more genuine guys and girls, most of them are enthusiasts, not merceneries and they take their job seriously. They also have purposeful lives, careers and a balanced mind.
They are also more comfortable with criticism and have open mind. They have confidence but not arrogance. Examples on CL: Rominl, 1sicklex, GS4, enigma etc etc.

I used to be one of those nuts, except I am so crazy I keep the same username.
Going across every forum defending everything Lexus but thank God , I woke up and that is not me. I am a car enthusiast first, hence my new signature.....Then again, I do have a life and you can search and find pics of me and what I love more than cars.....
women
The forums can be quite helpful in keeping that burning desire and thensome going. When I don't want to spend, I don't go online.
I check the 460 section once a week or so...probably more since every now and then she will bring up the car.

Every time I see a "what do you do for your career" thread I notice a large majority of the people who respond are IT guys. For me, I'm an IT guy, you learn to multi-task and do several things at once (several as in surfing multiple forums). The forums keep me sane at work, especially when working long hours.
I'm almost always multi-tasking while on CL , & even at home, I'd be eating breakfast in the morning, & watching TV or talking to someone in the evening etc., that's why you seldom see long posts from me, or posts that require too much thinking
