Supercharging comes to the CTS.
by Brenda Priddy (2006-10-04)
TheCarConnection's team of spies has snagged the hot version of the next CTS-a 2009 CTS-V prototype.
This is not the run-of-the-mill (future) CTS. This prototype has a huge bubble in the hood, performance wheels and wide tires, unique (larger) exhaust pipes and-the photographer swears-an obvious supercharger sound.
Engine-wise, we've heard rumors that the CTS-V will be powered by a 4.6-liter non-supercharged V-8, while others insist (and our pictures likely show) a supercharged V-8 is in store for the hot CTS. Some even claim this will share the its supercharged V-8 with a future Corvette.
Horsepower estimates have also been all over the board, but we're guessing the CTS-V will have somewhere between 550-600 hp. Production should start in the fall of 2008, and an annual run of 7500 CTS-Vs is expected.
I have only one problem...those ugly mufflers. I have seen them not just on Caddys but so many other vehicles. Even vehicles down here in Mexico that are European and not sold in the U.S. (Alfa Romeo comes to mind...great designs, POS muffler).
