2007 Altima: Official Specs
New upcoming Corolla will have ZR engine with dual VVTi, but thats different engine series than AZ (Sucessor to ZZ).
Even then, it will be first offered 2 years after Camry went on sale.
Question is how much influence does the CVT figure have to do with city mileage (a lot), and of course there are downsides to having belt/pulley CVT.
C&D, October 2006, under "2007 New Cars, Nissan":
"We had a short drive in the new Altima and were impressed by the lack of torque steer, the sportier handling, and the CVT, which has been programmed to act more like a conventional automatic. If Nissan gets the pricing right, then the Altima has a chance to make inroads into its major competitors' sales."

Interesting. Does this mean that the newly revised V6 engine in the Altima is still rated under the OLD SAE standards??? Or am I reading something wrong.

*All horsepower ratings are per SAE J1349 JUN1995

It's a typo. The 2007 G35 specs (306 hp) say SAE 1995, while the 2006 M35 specs (280 hp) say SAE 2004, while in reality it's the reverse.
That site always has errors like that.
Exactly.
Its why I've seen 98-99mph traps from new V6 Camrys... as fast as the "298hp" G35 LOL
I think the V6 altima will still be slower than the Camry. Funny because its just a new motor Toyota has; they arent tuning it to the ragged edge... its brand new. Whereas Nissan's motor barely got 287hp a few years ago in its most powerful form(and I'd debate even that number)

the VQ you're referring to was 275hp sae.
the generation VQ after that was 293hp sae.
the new VQ coming is 306hp sae.
as far as comparing speed goes, a neon srt4 is as quick as the v6 camry and a g35 for that matter.
