The ads are more or less stop-gap measures to keep sales from dramatically dropping while they change their aging lineup.
That was my point as well.

Dr. Z comes across like an arrogant German a__hole in the commercials IMO. In one, the "Dumb American" is shown watering his lawn and Dr. Z comes along and educates him on the front suspension/axle of his 300C and then proceeds to remove it and leave it on the front lawn as he says "Auf Wiedersehen" and peels out and away as the "Dumb American" just keeps on watering his lawn with the axle sitting there. Dr. Z is an a__hole. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if he's an arrogant, American-insulting ***** in real life too. These commercials are silly, stupid, insulting, not funny. He's the Chairman, he's the "actor", he had to sign off on these, I hold him responsible.

I too find them ego serving ads with truly no purpose. Especially since Chrysler is offering what employee pricing or something similar again.

The ads on the radio are annoying. Period.

I admire people who call it the way the see it. No sugar-coating, no bullsh_t, no fence-sitting, and good or bad, praise or criticism, they speak their mind and you know exactly where they stand. That's how I try to be. I don't bullsh_t and I don't like to be bullsh_tted.

i think the Dr. Z commercials are funny.

what i don't like are the jetta commercials where they have people screaming on megaphones... there are too many assumptions made and it just feeds terrible stereotypes of people that drive nice cars.

You sound like either a candidate for charm school or a drop out from the diplomatic profession.

I do agree with you that people who call it like it is should be admired but did you ever consider that there is more than one way to express yourself (straight forward and polite or straight forward and rude)??

Dr Z looks goofy to me.

Plus, I am not sure these adds are accomplishing their
objective.

Have you guys seen the latest one where, after Dr. Z gives his latest sales pitch, a young American comes up, rolls his eyes, walks off, and says " Actors !"

Like it or not, though, commercials where the Big Boss himself ( the company President or CEO ) comes out and does it are usually more effective than the ordinary ones that are just cranked out by ad agencies.

Some of the best examples ( many of you are not old enough to remember them ) were in the early-mid 1980's when Lee Iacocca, Chrysler Chairman, made a whole bunch of TV commercials defending Chrysler quality ( ) and supporting import quotas ( never mind the fact that Chrysler at that time sold Mitsubishi imports and shared designs ). Basically Lee talked a bunch of bull-s**t, but it was EFFECTIVE bull-s**t. Chrysler sales soared despite awful quality.

Contrast this with Isuzu, where, instead of having the company Big Boys do the commercials, that get a lying salesman named Joe Isuzu. The company started downhill and has been on the road to oblivion ever since.

I think the Wendy's commercials with Dave Thomas were good too

Haha. It's been only about what 8 months since the campaign aired and now they are in the process of splitting up with Chrysler.

Wow.
