One aspects that really puts me off the LS430 is the digital clock at the middle-top of the dashboard, just screams CAMRY.

I agree, & I think the interior of the SC430 is still the best among Lexus. That's one of the main reasons I bought the car.

The 2IS is more luxurious but the materials seem cheap compared to the GS, and definitely the IS. The latest GS may be 'subtle' but that can also be 'boring' and it has so little wood I'm disappointed.

The latest LS has also inherited some of that awful metallic painted plastic around the screen, but other than that, it's really really nice.

The latest ES to me seems only a small step above an Avalon but at least the ES doesn't have the swaths of metallic painted plastic panels, as does the Camry. Fugly.
New ES use cheaper plastic (same as those on the 2IS) on the dash & doors than the previous generation ES, but still looks quite a bit upscale than the Avalon.

That cheap metallic painted plastic actually is an improvement over the ugly tan/black plastic in the older lexus models/stereo headunit, although maybe more wood/real metal would be nice in place of the plastic.

Alfter seeing the es 350 compareing it to the 2nd gen es and 1st gen es, I'd say the 1st generation es had less cheap plastic..almost every surface is padded and covered in leather/vinyl.

That and that little trick it does with the roof.

And yeah those door handles feel great. Sometimes I just sit in there with the engine off admiring the craftmanship and I've been in more cars than a cheap hooker. The SC interior is dare I say, Bentley like. Audi is no slouch either.

I remember a friend of mine showing me his new Mercedes C-Class and saying that the salesman had made a big selling point of the leather interior being "leather twin". I asked what this was and he said that only the seat facings are leather, the rest is vinyl! I had to laugh at the level of penny pinching Mercedes had stooped to. I haven't seen vinyl on car seats since 1982.
