I think I would have been in slow reverse along that curb to see if I couldn't get something to catch. Sure it might ruin a wheel but a new front end is more expensive.

Unfortuantely I had to make and take this decision in December when a Maxima decided not to yield to oncoming traffic when pulling out of a driveway. So, now I need a new wheel and not a front end.

It isn't snow at that point. It's ice. Black ice. You'll understand when you lose control of your car in conditions like that. It's not fun. I've got an '89 Camry with war wounds to prove it when I lived in New York in college. All the wheels are either bent or broken, but safely functioning.

Not when the curb is covered in ice. It'll slow you down, but it won't stop a 3000+ lb car...
