I disagree. My old 1985 Toyota Camry's interior was better than the rental 2004 Chevy Malibu that I had! Better fit and finish and even had a better feel to it.

Maybe 1975. Just maybe

Next-Generation Chevy Silverado Pickup Spy Photos

Big trucks mean big profits for General Motors, so the company’s complete lineup of full size trucks is critically important. To bring their new models into production as quickly as possible, GM has not been waiting until normal introduction dates, but instead has introduced each new model using staggered dates. In early 2006 they launched the 2007 Chevy Tahoe, which took the market by storm despite high gas prices. This was followed several months later by the Chevy Suburban, which has also been well received. Then just recently the new Chevy Avalanche was introduced as the first of the new generation pickup trucks. But the most important vehicle of all is the full size pickup truck, the Chevy Silverado and its sister vehicle, the GMC Sierra, which will be launched this fall. The Silverado is GM’s biggest profit maker, selling in huge numbers. It is this vehicle that more than any other will determine the financial well-being of General Motors.

These latest photos, taken in the US southwest, capture a prototype of the next-generation Chevy Silverado pickup. This one is a model 3500HD, with dual rear wheels and a Crew Cab. A current model Silverado, taken along for comparison testing, is seen in the background of one of the photos. Despite the disguise one can clearly see several improvements in the new truck.

One obvious change is the big door handles that are noticeably larger than on the prior vehicles, allowing one to easily open the door while wearing heavy gloves. Also note the new low-profile marker lights on the roof as compared to the current style lights seen on the truck in the background. The new lights likely use LED lamps for compact size, lower power consumption, and longer life.

Disguise on the front end hides details of the design, but the big, beefy front bumper now appears to be all metal instead of metal bottom and plastic top as used before. The front grille design is hidden from view, but you can be sure it will have the current Chevy look with a bold horizontal chrome bar across the center with the big Chevy bowtie in the middle. Also note the headlights, which are a bit bigger and more squared off than before.

The new pickups are expected to be introduced this fall for the 2007 model year. What they will be named is a bit up in the air, since the current model Silverado is already being called the “2007 Silverado Classic”. Maybe the new one will be sold as a 2008 model, or maybe just as a 2007 Silverado, without the “Classic”. In any case, GM has invested heavily in making this the best full size pickup they have ever made. Hopefully the buying public will agree.

Looks more like a toy truck than an actual one, I continue to be thouroughly unimpressed with GM
