Brabus gives the full aerodynamic and tuning treatment to the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan and wagon.

BOTTROP, Germany — Subtle. But not too subtle. That's the philosophy at Brabus, the longtime Mercedes tuning house.

The company has just finished touching up the face-lifted E-Class sedan and wagon, and is offering a full range of engine tuning and other goodies.

The E500 gets special attention. The displacement of its V8 engine is bumped from 5.0 to 6.1 liters. Output is nudged to 462 horsepower, with torque climbing to 454 pound-feet. Brabus also eliminates the annoying electronic tether, so top speed jumps to 190 mph, and the 0-60-mph sprint takes a mere 4.8 seconds.

Even E350 buyers can take some solace in the Brabus treatment, which hikes displacement of the V6 to 4.0 liters and boosts output to 332 hp and 310 lb-ft. The E320 CDI receives similar treatment, with similarly satisfying results.

To complement the extra beef, Brabus offers custom-tailored stainless steel sport exhaust systems for all engine variants, plus a wide range of tire/wheel combinations in sizes up to 20 inches. There are serious suspension mods, too, including body-lowering kits for both air-sprung and conventional models.

The Brabus aero body kits and pieces dress things up, with spoilers, skirts, aprons and other add-ons designed to enhance both performance and appearance.

Interior upgrades range from stainless-steel door sills and seatback covers with integrated LCD monitors to full handcrafted leather cockpits with all the bells.
