Cadillac has trumped Lexus as the highest regarded luxury brand, according to a owner satisfaction study by research firm AutoPacific. Last year, Lexus narrowly beat Cadillac for the number one spot. Cadillac had the top rated entry Luxury Car with its CTS and solid performances by the rest of its lineup, the firm said. The top rated Mainstream Brand is Honda. The Honda Ridgeline and Odyssey also got top honors in their respective categories.

In rating major segments, Sport Utility Vehicle owners rate their vehicles more satisfying than do Car, Pickup or Minivan owners. This finding goes contrary to popular myth that SUVs are fading in popularity and SUV owners are dissatisfied with their vehicles.

AutoPacific previously announced individual vehicle winners. The vehicle registering highest overall satisfaction in 2006 is the Lincoln Navigator Luxury SUV winning top vehicle, top truck and top Luxury SUV honors. The highest rated car is the new-for-2006 Hyundai flagship — Hyundai Azera.

AutoPacific’s VSA establishes numerical satisfaction ratings for virtually every car and light truck in the United States. Owner satisfaction is calculated across 45 specific areas related to a vehicle’s operation, comfort, safety and the overall purchase/lease experience.

Kind of like how Kerry was about 5 points ahead of Bush in 2004 and the exitpolling results supported that info...so, who's the president? Who won Ohio?

Like I said, If lexus took first honor, many people wouldn't scavage around to see if the source is credible.

If JD powers rated lexus number 1 in reliability , some will say: "oh thats great. Lexus has their reputation so I'm no surprised"

If JL Powers rated BMW number 1 in reliability, some will say: "oh that's meaningless because JD Powers takes a survey and anything can happen in a survey. I know my friend's brother dog's uncle's aunt cousin has a BMW and it always breaks down while my Lexus has been trouble free since I bought it at 204k miles."

Another example: Six awards the LS430 won are from AutoPacific:

- April 2002 – The LS 430 named 'Top Performer in Premium Luxury' car segment by the AutoPacific Vehicle Satisfaction Score (VSS).

-May 2004 – AutoPacific announces the 2004 Vehicle Satisfaction Awards (VSA). The LS 430 registered highest overall satisfaction for a fifth consecutive year.

IF an eager Lexus fan were to read these two awards, no doubt in mind that they will not doubt the credibility. Think of it. How many lexus fans will think "oh that can't be right..AutoPacific means nothing so really, those awards dont count." Instead, they overlook the source and say "yippy the LS430 won. I knew it was that good."

Get what I mean? It's true. Some people would check for credibility if Lexus didn't take first honor. This is true and if there is any denial, then there is bias. I'm not saying Cadillac can't take top spot either because they can.

This was posted on CL then too. Just doesn't make sense the outcome changes now indeed.

It raises suspicion because in nearly every other study, Cadillac is next to Saab rather than BMW, Porsche, Infiniti, etc.

Well, seems the tier 3 sub luxury brand forum has more posts about what we think, than they think, on their own forum. I won't link it though, we don't cross post here like they do.

And they seem to bring my name up at least 10 times a day.

I feel special.

I wonder why they are not concerned their sub luxury brand is not a top quality brand?

End results, 1st or 2nd, pretty damn good results.

Your brand sucks, its low rent and the concept for luxury is all wrong, BMW just told you that with their ad.

Not discrediting (is this a word?) anything but I think a true study should involve one driver driving both vehicles at the same time THEN filling out the questionnaires

Sort of like the long term studies, no???

Example and not trying to favor Lexus here: Give me an LS and an STS (V would be nice) for one month to drive and I'll let you know which one makes me happier

Remember, with any type of statistics gathering like this, they may or may not be taking into account the demographics of those who typically purchase those brands.

Many times, when someone makes a purchase, they will justify it subconsciously and reinforce their purchasing decision regardless of the actual quality of the product. Like said earlier, this behaviour is evidenced whenever these type of statistics pop up in an enthusiast forum and everyone rushes to their car's defense if it doesn't take top honours.

It would be great to see a chart showing the % disposition for being gullible next to each of those cars.

The Mercury Milan and Volkswagen Passat are the only ones I find really questionable in that list.

/taken with a grain of salt
