Quote: so ive gotta ask this question now

which lexus model would be most popular among the gays?
Well, as you guys know I don't believe in auto stereotypes but if I had to make a guess based on what I do know about gay auto buying patterns, I'd have to say the SC430.

Quote: Why does it matter its not like gay people arent buying lexus or toyota now they probably just keep there sexual preference to themselves. This is just crazy.
It's more spreading the advertisement, put ads in gay magazines, that could spark more interest in the gay community that might have just looked at a VW

It's a rite of passage for many gay men to get a Bimmer Audi or Benz when (if) they get a good job and have a decent income. They are targeting ads to a group that traditionally buy from their biggest competitors. It's just capitalism, baby!

1. I don't drive a Scion...I can care less
2nd. Okay...so they are gay...does that mean that they do not have money? Gay people = people still...in every sense so....money is money.

This reminds me of a funny joke!!

Q: How many gay people does it take to tip over a VW Jetta?

A: I don't know, the Cubs haven't won the world series since 1908

(I'm actually gay and love the Cubs so please don't censor this, I think it's funny!)

In Atlanta, with a huge gay population, I noticed the car of choice is VW and AUDI for some reason, followed by Acura TL and TSXs. I mean, that is all you see in midtown.

I guess Lexus wants its share of the pie and business is business.

Same here in the D.C. area...a lot of gay men drive VW's. A gay man I work with is on his second Jetta diesel....he loves it, and the way it runs forever on a gallon of fuel. Still, I wouldn't tag VW as a " Gay " stereotype car......too many straight people drive them as well.

For the most part the gay community has larger amounts of disposable income because they don't have to pay for kids, ect. They also show a trend towards being more materialistic than straight couples so what's better to do with your extra stacks of cash than to buy a nice car? They typically go for trendier, nicer, more stylish, higher quality products and since L-Finesse, it makes sense that many of them might stop into a Lexus dealership.

The whole "I dont want gay people driving my car" is ridiculous.

It's good to have an open mind when marketing to the general public. Prior to this marketing campaign, Toyota/Saatchi x2 targeted the Latino and African American markets heavily. Profitability counts...and the marketing heads at Toyota/Lexus are expanding their target demographics. It's only natural of any growing and emerging company to appeal to other groups.

Lexus joins growing list of automakers seeking gay buyers

Lexus is joining its Toyota stablemate Scion in directly courting gay audiences. The luxury brand's edgier, younger sibling has been in the business of marketing to gays essentially since its inception, but this will mark the first time that Lexus has directly sought the homosexual dollar.

Brian Bolain, Lexus' national advertising and media manager outlines the process that led Lexus into the market in a Gay365.com interview. Being gay himself, Bolain elaborated on how and why Toyota rolled out Scion to the gay community, and how such lessons are being applied to the company's upscale Lexus brand.

In addition to discussing Lexus' shifting market strategies, writer Michael Wilke discusses company (and advertising firm) initiatives in place to craft marketing messages that speak to alternative and minority audiences without offending them.

Lexus joins luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz and Cadillac in directly vying for GLBT dollar.

What's your point in what's bad about this? I don't mean this to be a personal attack, just asking because the gleeful way you posted this... are you homophobic?

So what - it's marketing and sales ? Gay people buy cars too... just because they may have a different sexual orientation than you doesn't mean they don't purchase the same cars as you.

Advertising is aimed at many demographics; what's the big deal.

In the forum world, people make fun of Jettas, Bugs, Minis, etc because Gay owners drive them. Now this might happen to the Lexus. I just hate to see that happen. I was laughing because someone is trying to make it happen.
