Porsche's April 2006 Results Establish Best Sales Month Ever
ATLANTA--May 2, 2006--Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), importer and distributor of Porsche sports cars and Cayenne SUVs in the United States and Canada, today announced its best one-month sales results ever in the United States. In April, Porsche sold a total of 3,341 cars in this country, an increase of 9 percent compared to April of 2005 when sales were 3,065. Helping drive this history making result, the Porsche 911 continued its brisk sales pace by establishing another record month in April with sales of 1,229, an increase of 22 percent when compared to the same month in 2005. For the year, 911 sales are 4,068, outpacing 2005's year-to-date performance by 23 percent.
This April's overall strong showing joins a list of record-breaking results in 2006 for the German automaker in the U.S. PCNA has marked record sales in each of the first four months of 2006. During the current year, Porsche has recorded sales of 12,458 through April, which is 21 percent ahead of last year's pace.
"2006 continues to show the brand's growing appeal in this critical market," said Peter Schwarzenbauer, PCNA President and CEO. "It is particularly gratifying to see the strong market momentum building for the 911 series that is enjoying record popularity even before we introduce the incredible 911 Turbo later this year."
This month's remarkable performance at Porsche also saw increases in the Boxtster/Cayman series, which enjoyed combined sales of 1,177 for April and an increase of 24 percent above the same month in 2005.
In addition, dealers sold 549 Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned vehicles in April, compared to 572 for the same period last year.

When the GS 350/460 drop, it will be a totally different story.

We will see in the coming months if doubters of the GS argument are also proved wrong.
On another note, Acura had TL sales reach almost 8K! That's crazy! I'm really interested in seeing May sales figures, to see how the ES350 will impact TL sales.
Also on another note: the Accord Hybrid took a complete nosedive sales-wise, and the Civic Hybrid also dropped in sales. The Corolla had a clear lead over the new Civic sales-wise, which is surprising.
Prius sales have dropped, but that has already been confirmed to be because of production being allocated to the ramp up of the Camry Hybrid. The Prius continues to fly off the dealer lots, and demand does not seem to be decreasing.
The Yaris and FJ both had some solid sales.

No one is taking away from the fact the new 3 is a great car and their lineup is very solid. Good for them.
Both brands are in WIN WIN situations.

While everyone else has only 1 car in the segment, Lexus has 2. If u think of them as one car since they are the same price, well, they sell over 100k units a year and no one comes close.
So maybe its not Lexus that is wrong. Maybe the others should follow suit and reach for more sales?

This is the start of a new product cycle for Lexus. I wouldn't be ringing the alarm bells just yet. The same thing happened last year, BMW was ahead a month or two. So what? This luxury market is neck and neck, Lexus is often ahead but not always. That's what makes things interesting.
And the BMW coupe is 'coming' also, just like the New G35 is 'coming' so Lexus is not ahead or behind in that regard--everyone has their model cycles.
I'm hopeful that Lexus will expand their non-SUV sales ratio in the years to come.

We both know Audi rings no bells with American consumers, Infiniti will sell G35s to those that want the cheapest car in class (and 10% sales to Enterprise) and we have to wait for the new C-class.
What I am saying is, there seems to be a WIN WIN situation for most carmakers in this segment. There seems to be room for most of these players.
But please, continue to tell us Lexus is bad on a Lexus forum and BMW is the greatest company ever created. (and to think I really like BMWs)

I'm saying that everybody is making excuses for Lexus when there is no reason to... If Lexus was really serious about outselling the 3 series, they would have done something about it three years ago. They have a three vehicle approach to reach that entire segment, which clearly is not enough to own that segment.
And.. yes, I'm tired of hearing how "The new improved Lexus xxx is coming and Lexus will show them how it's done" In sales, you cannot sell from an empty wagon. There are no acceptable excuses. Sales will rise and drop from all manufacturers. The "new" GS has been out over a year now and while I personally believe it offers a better value over the M45, there is NO way to rationalize why the M outselling is the GS. Lexus dropped the ball here. Lexus has an actual pricing issue, or a perceived value issue. Either way, it's not cutting it.
Don't be fooled thinking that people are sitting on the sidelines keeping their checkbooks warm while Lexus prepares the GS350/460. They will make no measurable impact on this section of the market.
I agree with other posters in this thread... the IS350 and ES350 will grab GS market share.
Imagine the Lexus car line in a product pyramid.
LS & SC430
GS4xx
GS3xx/ES3XX/IS350
IS250
The GS 4xx buyer will be squeezed down market to tier 3 and the GS350 will have to compete with the ES for the "lux" buyer and IS for the "sporty sedan" buyer. If those customers stick with Lexus, Lexus wins.. what has been happening is that they have been choosing the M45 which wedges between the GS4xx and the GS3xx.
The coupe is in it's own segment and is not a huge seller for Lexus or other manufacturers. (with the slight exception of the Infiniti G35)

2.There in no doubt the M35/45 is a very good car and clearly a homerun for Nissan. Again though, Lexus is not the same company it was, selling a GS 300 since what 1993-2005 with the same engine. They have stated, they will continue to change and offer more powerpants. So when the GS is revamped (like the E is now 350 and 550 and the 5 has a new 550) with the 350 and 460, Nissan in their short sightedness, will have even older tech than they have now.
3. I disagree. People that want a GS want a GS. Even with the IS 350 more powerful than the 430 and 300 and cheaper, 2300 people bought a GS. Different strokes for different folks.

Infiniiti is getting drilled. Sales are down, the QX is new, the FX is revised, new G35s are around the corner. The GT-R will be a Nissan, M sales are strong.
Just not good for their already restless dealers. coming.

Wow, Lexus had a tough month. Seems everything is down except the IS. But the new ES 350 is here, RX 350 hopefully will pick up, GS 450h is here (limited quantaties) and we know the GS/LS are coming this fall.
Should be enough for them to keep the sales titles.
But man, a ROUGH APRIL.
