me being stereotypically asian and not topping 6 feet in height, i have no problem fitting in the car.

and yes...i have realized that there are certain stereotypical ramifications that come with purchasing this car--but there are better things to argue about, and as 20 years of strong sales suggest--it's a real enthusiast's car and given that the seller is willing to let it go for a steal, i'm SORELY tempted.

the guy with his ****-retentive caretaking never let the tank go below half tank, NEVER took the top off, and he put on a hardtop because he preferred the hardtop's looks over the softtop. he's even got bedsheets covering the opening of the softtop to keep the sun off the upholstery..

much thanks for the feedback and thoughts/stereotypical rants/comments/recommendations. more would be appreciated.

Well, you asked for my advice......I'll give it to you. FORGET stereotypes. This is YOUR car, YOUR money, and YOUR driving pleasure. If this is the car for you ( again, if you can fit into it ) and the car checks out in good shape and is not a piece of junk ( remember the things I mentioned to look for ) then go for it. If anybody laughs at you for driving a " girlie" or a " wimp " car, tell them to kiss your a * *.

Sounds like a great vehicle (so well taken care of). If you love the way it drives, the price is great, and you can afford it, go for it! And I expect that if you do get a great deal on it, even if you're 'over it' in a year or so, you won't lose much in depreciation.

As a previous Miata owner, I can certainly give you the thumbs up for buying the Miata. I have seriously considered selling the Sc400 and going back to a Miata.

The Miata is a driver's car. It doesn't have the cool factor and admittedly it does have a stigma attatched to it to the automobile ignorant. But it is responsive, balanced, reliable, a convertible, and aboe all it's a hoot to drive.

Sounds like you have a really good chance to get into a well cared for Miata. Go over to miataforum. com and check out what those owners have to say. Everyone there LOVES ***.

I used to have a Miata and I LOVED it. One of the best I ever owned. My girlfriends and I would totally date a guy driving a Miata. Just wear sunscreen or else you'll get the convertible tan (dark upper body and white legs!)

Yup. That's all it took. When I got the Miata, it was so much easier to get a girl to go out with you. All you need is a sunny day and a destination. Win win situation.

Miatas are great, fun cars. And for the people that say they are girls cars... there are many cases where people have dropped 302s and Ls1 into them and beaten Ferraris at the track. I dont know about you but that sounds like a pretty fun car to me.

Miata's are fantastic. They are great fun cars, reliable and affordable. Biased opinions should be set aside here, non believers should just drive one. I don't really fit (6'2", 250) but normal sized people do.... A friend here is 6'0", 190 and fits fine. he drives the SHNOT out of his car (a 2001 model) has 90 000 miles on it and it still runs/ drives great. Everyday he has it right sideways coming out of the company parking lot Personally I'm saving for a BoxsterS though....

The MX-5 Miata (esp. with a blower) is on my short list of roadsters I respect: S2000, Miata, and Elise. Lower on the list, but on the list, are the Boxster S and 911 Carrera S. Everything else is too heavy (>2900 lb), too poseur, too American (although I may have to look into the Solstice and Sky), too electronics-laden, or doesn't have Porsche handling.

I say, do it.

It takes a pretty insecure individual to pass the MX-5 off as a "girly" car. Put the thing around a track (not the street), and you will quickly understand the definition of sports car. I've seen/heard of too many tearing up NSX's and the like around tracks, despite the power difference. A true hard top version would cut down on weight, and qualify it for track use without roll bars...plus the aftermarket is all too friendly with the MX-5, meaning if they decide to take the power route, they have the weight advantage over most cars. Lastly, Mazda knows how to bulid a GREAT chassis and suspension.
