Red face New James Bond Can't Drive Stick Shift . . .

Craig's 007 can't get in gear

New James Bond star Daniel Craig may have a license to kill - but does he have a license to drive?

The latest hitch on the set of "Casino Royale," the new 007 flick, reportedly occurred when the star revealed he couldn't drive the super-suave superspy's trademark Aston Martin. Craig, 37, found himself shaken, not stirred, when he was confronted with a manual gearshift instead of an automatic, British newspapers said today.

Craig, the first blond Bond, got off to a rough start. His two front teeth were knocked out when a stunt went wrong during his first fight scene for "Casino Royale."

Adding insult to injury, disgruntled Bond fans have launched a Web site - www.craignotbond.com - to protest Craig's casting as their hero.

Apparently they feel the English actor just doesn't have the right stuff to follow in the footsteps of former Bonds Sean Connery, Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan - or even Timothy Dalton and George Lazenby.

Just use a body double for the long shots of the car on the road, & someone else's arm to do the shifting shots

He may be the WORST Bond yet, and I thought Dalton was bad Brosnan was certainly entertaining and looked the part, but his acting was so-so. Sean Connery all the way

I don't like this new Bond although I'm trying to keep an open mind...it seems a little like bad luck, is the hatred of the fans getting to him?

Incidentally, it seems that every other Bond doesn't do so well. Note: CONNERY-Lazenby=MOORE=Dalton-BROSNAN-

LOL..that's just shameful. I even know how to drive a stick. My first car was a stick, but I didn't know how to drive it. The salesperson drove it home with me in passenger seat while showing me what to do. My dad was tailing in family car. From there I just kind of learned myself through trial and error.
Oh and my dad was a HUGE James Bond fan so I watched all of those older movies. He liked Connery the best but I have to say my list goes like this:
1. Moore
2. Brosnan
3. Connery
4. Dalton
5. Lazenby

(I always felt a little cheated they wasted what I thought could have been the best Bond movie on Lazenby.)

Of course I can apply quantum encryption to your secret file, embed it in a nanochip, fight my way through the remnants of the Soviet Union military, make love all night long, and never ask for a raise. Just don't ask me to drive anything with a clutch.

Now where's my martini?

I did not like Dalton either. Lazenby I have no comment on though I have seen him play Bond. Brosnan had the best voice of all the bonds. Connery had the best finesse especially around women. However, Moore took the prize. Moore was so cool in the way he acted Bond and my favorite Bond film to this day is Moonraker.

They are not asking you to master it, so learning how to operate it shouldn't take too long. I say three days max each day two or three hours......good to go.

It's o.k. to learn manual shifting on a 150-200 hp car, but for an Aston Martin that may have 500 hp?!? He can kill himself if he loses control!

of course learn it on a small power car. and just need to learn how it looks to drive a stick shift, they are not the one doing all the stunts anyway

Geez man, the reason your parents gave you a brain and Aston Martin gives you a gas pedal is so you don't have to make acceleration a digital event, idle or full throttle. If the studio lets any big dollar actor do anything other than drive more than 30 or 40 mph, I would be surprised. McQueen and Newman were rarities. Not to mention the really scary amount of people out there who can dispatch themselves, or unfortunate bystanders, in miatas and civics. If the guy is that much of a loser, he should probably stay out of anything other than a motorized wheel chair.
