The Sequoia is a truck and is burdened with a terrible 3rd row (seats that fold to the side and not away), plus the mileage is terrible as well. Also, a car based SUV was a requirement.

The Volvo unfortunately was $6K more to get the same features. Even then its NAV implementation did not compare to the MDX and its powertrain is medieval compared to the MDX (the 2.5T that was) - also reliability was a huge question mark.

The Q7 would be a consideration but it is not out yet, is a first year German car, and worse the V6 won't be out till the fall.

To be honest, a stretched RX330/350 would have been just perfect.

Yes but that's sticker right? Nobody pays sticker for Volvos. You can buy a loaded XC90 V8 for thousands off sticker with only the most modest negotiating skills (not to mention they routinely right on the windshield something like $5k off as your starting point.)

The Acura has a nicer navi OS but the Volvo's is much better positioned and I like the fact that you don't see when it's not in use.

Correct, that price dif is based on Retail. In the real world (at the time we purchased).....

The Acura was $1K below cost, the XC90 was cost minus $2,500 (Volvo was covering the Premium package as part of an incentive - not sure if they are still doing this, nor Acura for that matter).

So basically you are looking at $44,094 for the XC90 and $39,400 for the MDX - so about $4,700 plus tax in real world. So figure the amount at $5,000 - still just too much with the items I pointed out.

I should also add that the DVD in the Acura works so well with the Voice Recognition that I'm not sure my wife has ever programmed it otherwise - it even allows you to do this while driving.

c'mon Lexus, give us a production version of the HPX (with 3 rows). Many are migrating to car based SUV's but need the 3 rows. Wife likes the GX based upon the look but I am pushing towards the '07 MDX... unless of course a VX (of HPX ilk) as described here is available in Fall '06:
