I've owned a fairly good cross-section of the regular passenger car world:

1964 Plymouth Barracuda...white
1965 Buick Electra 225....silver
1965 Buick Skylark....white
1967 Chrysler Newport....dark blue metallic / black roof
1975 Plymouth Duster....white
1978 Plymouth Horizon...silver metallic
1980 Chevrolet Citation....white
1982 Plymouth Reliant.....sea green metallic
1983 Chrysler Lebaron..... smoke gray metallic / silver roof
1984 Mazda GLC....silver
1988 Mazda 323....white
1990 Mazda Protege.....light bluish-silver metallic
1995 Toyota Celica....Iris ( medium blue ) pearl
1997 Toyota Tercel......coral rose pearl
1999 Saturn SL2.....blackberry ( extremely dark red )
2001 Saturn SC2....chrome yellow / black roof
2001 Lexus IS300 ( joined CL in 2003 )...bright solar yellow
2006 Subaru Outback.......Atlantic Blue pearl

In addition I regularly drove and took care of my dad and mom's:
1962 Cadillac Sedan De Ville....tan
1963 Plymouth Valiant......mint green
1966 Plymouth Barracuda.....bright red
1965 Ford Thunderbird.....dark teal metallic
1968 Plymouth Valiant.....medium blue metallic
1977 Plymouth Volare.....cherry red metallic
1982 Plymouth Horizon....silver / gray metallic two-tone
1988 Mercury Tracer....silver
1994 Toyota Corolla....light baby blue

What were my favorites?:
For comfort.....the 1965 Electra, 1965 Thunderbird, and 1962 Cadillac
For overall quality.....the 2001 Lexus IS300 and the 2006 Outback
For practicality and versatility...the 2006 Outback
For ruggedness......the 1963 Valiant
For handling and driving feel......the 1984 Mazda GLC ( the non-power steering felt like a BMW)
For beautiful looks.....the 1995 Celica
For economy and commuting...the 1997 Tercel

If I could have any one of them back again...the Electra restored to mint condition.
The car I wanted the most that I could not afford: a new 1970 Plymouth Road Runner...purple ( plum crazy ) metallic

In addition I have reviewed and test-driven literally hundereds of vehicles...far too many to list here.

LOL...The early cars were high school and college days. The cars in middle of list I worked at a mom 'n pop Lexus store so I didn't make much money. It wasn't until '98 I made my first 6 figure salary so that's where the Lexus' start showing up. Happy now?

In Liz's defense, it's only fair to say, too, that even though $100,000 + a year is not chump change, it doesn't stretch very far with SoCal's cost of living ( especially real estate ) ...and not much further here in the DC area either. Take that kind of money, however, and move to Arkansas or West Virginia and you will live like a king...or queen.

If both my house and my car were not already paid for I couldn't afford to live where I do either..in one of No VA's nicest suburbs.

Yes that's true. Single, no kids, no house, after 401k and almost 40% taken out in taxes I was left with just under half of that. Not a lot in Los Angeles, but enough to get some very nice cars.
