If he wants a small-ish v6 sedan with a good auto transmission you should kick his butt and make him buy an IS250.

The TSX is a great car, but there is no 6cyl option, and I personally don't think there will ever be. If he wants an Acura 6 he's going to have to go with the TL, which is a very different car (and you seemed to indicate he isn't interested in it). I come to the same conclusion every time - IS250!

You mean you never had a TSX came in as a trade in in the past couple years Liz ?
Like some others suggested, try to steer him towards an IS250

Okay, I pm'd Ken. I don't remember ever having a TSX trade. I sent my friend a email, but we had a conversation about the tranny before, he insisted he needed a 6 even though I alerted him to the fact he probably didn't need it. The guy does mostly city driving and doesn't "race". In any case, I think I'm going to bring him with me next time I "just happen" to stop by a Lexus dealer. lol He did mention liking my car, but I think now that theres a new body style out, he doesn't want "last year's model". Yup he's one of those guys. haha

I agree that the IS250 may be an option, but obviously it depends on what he will want with the car, what he will use it for, and how much he wants to ( or can afford to ) pay for it. The IS250 has a V6 and about the same HP level as the TSX...but with a little more torque. The standard IS250, being rear-drive, will handle better on dry pavement than the TSX, but the front-drive TSX will beat it in the rain and snow. The AWD IS250, of course, will solve that problem, but at a considerably higher cost than a TSX...upwards of $10,000 more.

I think he just needs to test drive the TSX and maybe even the IS250. People are often surprised at what size engine is really under the hood after a test drive. he may or may not still feel the need to have to have a V6. I mean 205 HP is nothing to sneeze at even if it is from a 4 cylinder engine.

I have driven TSX several times. I usually got aTSX as a loner whenever i have my RSX service. I like TSX a lot. I think under 30K, there's no car even come close to the TSX as a value wise. It has pretty much everything it needs with the base price. Even though the engine is only 4 cylinders, it is probably the smoothest 4 banger i have ever driven. highly recommended. But personally, i would take a look at IS250 M/T and pay a little bit extra.

DC52 is correct. Like I said in an earlier post, the TSX I test-drove...a manual.....had all the power you would ever want for anything but the most spirited driving.

Tell him the TSX will become an old model out of style a lot sooner than the all-new IS250

Maybe so, but that alone is not a reason for turning it down. Buying a car involves more than just style and fashion. It depends on what he wants from the car, what his needs are, and how much he is willing to pay for it. And another factor to consider......5 or 6 years from now, when he is ready to trade it in or buy another new one, how do we know what the "In" or 'Cool" thing is going to be in automotive fashion? Hey, for all we know, the Pontiac Aztek look could be in.

OK, Henry.....point taken. And...no pun intended.....that's one "point" for the IS250.

And with that, good night, everyone.....I'm dog-tired. Gotta get some rest. Getting to be too much of an old man, I guess.

Good luck, Liz.....hope you and your friend find the best car for him at a good price.

Yeah, don't know if hp and torque really concerns him. He knows what "looks good". Also his current car is like 7 or 8 years old. He will keep this car for awhile and he doesn't mod. I'm here to give him technical support and do the negotiating. Yes consider that, no run away, might be good, etc etc..lol Thanks again for all the tips and thoughts!
