Default 2003 Escalade - Yay or Nay

Guys,

Thinking about a 2003 Escalade for 30k. It is black, has 34k, remaining 16k warranty, 6.0, yada yada yada. It will be my daily driver.

What do you think? ( I don't care about gas mileage!!)

I say NAY. How about a preowned LX470? I would feel more confident that the LX won't break down.

Nay. Not cool anymore, the 15 minutes of fame (actually I guess it was a lot longer than that wasn't it...) for the big brute Ute is over. If you want the latest cool trendy thing - that is still big, then I recommend a Magnum, at least they have some real merit as a street brawler/ family hauler, and while the interior is mediocre at best it is still better than the awful GM fittings. If you definitely have your heart set on a big Ute, then check out an older LX450. That being said, I predict that there will be a lot of 'Slades and Navigators for sale for dirt cheap in the next few years once the leases come up on those big ticket items.

Neighbor has an Escalade. Loves it. Looks ok to me. Not sure 30k is a good deal but I haven't researched.

Here's my take:

I love the interior, but it still looks like a rolling tank. It's a huge piggy with horrible gas mileage. It's GM so it's only gonna last as long as it's gonna last - and being a caddy parts are just as expsnsive as Lexus, but last half as long.

The design is a failure from the get go. Nothing that blocky and big can cut wind enough to have any aero dynamic properties to try and cut down on that $125 tank of gas which will last 300 miles. The truck itself is shackled to it's V-8 because it takes every bit of it to get it moving.

I love SUV's, most all of them....... But this and the H2 are the two most worthless SUV's on the planet - being they are the same truck.

The same argument can be made for the Excursion, but at least it is made for heavy duty conditions - giving it some hope at having a purpose in life.

The caddy is a weak vehicle, overweight, pig of a gas guzzler with no purpose in life.

Instead of just throwing a different body on a chassis, like chevy did, Lincon double beefed the Navigator in almost every way. They took the stock Excursion frame and doubled it with a subframe, then boxed both frame and subframe. This is only one of the many beefed up improvements in the Navigator where Ford/Lincon has taken the steps to actually give you what you are paying for - unlike chevy.

Plus- it is quite the pimp ride

I say Nay. Not built that great, and to me its a FAD car. Not to mention high gas prices. Do you really need a truck that big??

If you really need a truck that big, I would look at the 2nd gen Navigator. I personally would focus on a truck in the midsize class, or maybe a smaller fullsizer like the LX470/LC which most already mentioned here.

I have to say NAY, the Escalade is just so played IMO. Seriously, there is nothing distinctive or exclusive about them anymore. Every guy with a "ballerstarterkit" slaps 55" wheels on it, with 200 monitors, and 150subwoofers, then adds lambo doors, and adds something like a minibar or fishtank or porta-potty in the rear.

Seriously though, a Escalade with a clean set of wheels lowered is a nice ride, its just that all the PimpMyRide types have just molested them beyond the point of no return!! lol

The Navigator never really caught on, so I think they can be had for song in the used car market, and are cleaner looking and more rare. Another alternative, I have always liked the previous Harley-Davidson pickups (4door, supercharged, charlcoal greay )

I say NAY. Not trying to be too biased, I'd just rather have a Tundra TRD (off-road) Limited...again. Fun toy and most practical if you're a home owner...making trips to Home Depot, etc. Gas milage not too bad at about 19 mpg highway. GREAT off road and in snow...you have both in Oklahoma..I know, I've lived in Midwest City, Moore and Norman for combined 9 yrs. It has an extended cab with lots of room and comfort. Or get an Lexus LX or an Acura. 30K is a lot for a 3yr old GM. And it's going to suck gas...no pun intended.
