The m5 will continue to set the bar as the fastest sedan on the planet. WOWWWWWWWWWWW
heehehe, to be honest iam not sure about that. used to be the m5 really kicks butt on the straight speed alone, but now mb is catching up quick. like the s600 or other amg sedans, they are fast as hell too, it's like a close race between the two
but if you talk about engineering (imho) and track performance (race), i totally agree with you, bmw will continue be the benchmark
From what i hear from the E55 boards the reason they show the video from a rolling start is that the m5 would lose if it was a stand still.. thats why they r hosting the video on the m5board.com, thats just what i read.. do not have any real numbers to prove it. i saw the m5 at the laguna seca track in july.. wow it looks nice.. and i test drove the e55.. MAN that thing is fast!!

interesting info from mb board.
if that's the case i think it's a matter of lauching the car. iam not surprised it's hard to launch the m5
yeah i read that the reason they dont have the m5 in stick is cause the 6 speed cant handle the power so they needed the SMG. and that the e55 has some super launch thing.. thats why everyone at the track actaully keeps on the traction control when they run.

The ///M5 DOES come in a stick as an option in the US Oh and mbworld are always like that , its TRUE the e55 can get the head start but the m5 catches up like fire , and that shows engineering

the e60 m5 is a 7 speed SMG.
there is rumor of a m5 with a manny 6 speed. Some say the smg will be faster than the stick. I saw dynos at m5 board that the HP ratings were underated when they dynoed it.

i thought it's not rumor already that the 6mt is coming for real here in the US
Well.... That video is pretty crummy if u asked me.
And just how many videos have we all seen of a E55 putting the "smack down" on several worthy opponents? TONS!
The new M5 is an awesome machine, but this particular video doesn't tell the whole story.
Having personally driven the E55 (and hopefully soon to own one) I can honestly say that it is one of the fastest accelerating cars I have ever driven: 360 Modena, Testerossa, Viper, C5 Z06, 911 TT, S/C Cobra, the list goes on. And also from what I have read, the hp is underrated 30 hp! AND let's not forget about the BMW spanking 517 ft/lbs of torque!
