To me, the whole M coupe line has always been ugly but the performance has always made up for it's appearance. It's a really a niche design. Not everyone will like it but it's so weird looking that it begins to grow on you. Anyways, I admire how BMW stuck to the design of the M coupe series. This series has always reminded me of a car one wheels and this is why my friends and I call it the "M shoe."

The rear 3/4 shot is acceptable, but the front of that car is just sooooooooooo bad.

never been a fan of verts at all. at least cars like the SC with hardtop that don't look like verts are cool, but this Z4 is stupid looking.

it looks worse as a coupe to me, and I hate verts

and yes MM, soft top covertables just look like girl cars.

I love the back end of it. The front sadly doesn't work, and I'd never buy one without being offered an insane deal, but yeah, if that rear was attached to something that worked with it, I think you'd have a great looking car.

I agree...not everyone thinks the M-coupes are ugly. My best friend bought a used bright-red 2000 about a year ago. I spiffed it up for him with SCRATCH-OUT. It doesn't do much for me, but he loves it...although they are not in a Toyota's class when it comes to reliability.

I won't get into a discussion with you about convertibles and females if it is just going to lead to an argument. We each have our view.....and have posted it. Let's leave it at that.

I just reread my post and it was a bit harsh

I'm not saying that all convertables are for girls, but you must admit some cars are more femine looking than others....
.
I know you don't like auto stereotypes, but they do exist

OK...you have been very courteous .....we'll discuss it. Yes, of course stereotypes EXIST. You see them everywhere but seemly more among auto journalists than anywhere else. My argumant about stereotypes is not that they don't exist but that they SHOUDN'T exist. The fact that they DO exist, IMO, is ridiculous. I see no reason why anyone should not buy and drive whatever is the best vehicle for them, their spouses, and families....and never mind what others think. People spend enormous amounts of money just trying to keep up with the Jonses' for image's sake. I am aware that there are a few people on CL who have sharp disagreements with me on this.....this is why I don't get into extended discussions about it any more unless people request it.

Now.....concerning the Beetle convertible, as far as the car itself is concerned, I see no reason whay a man cannot drive one if he likes the body style and fun-in-the-sun. But....you have a point with the little flower stalk that is mounted next to the steering column. I wouldn't bet on seeing too many NFL, guys, NBA guys, or Marines driving around with a flower actually sticking out of it.

And with that....let's get back to the M and Z4 Coupes...the topics.

Yup, the Cayman blows this away easy, I won't even give it a second thought.
The enthusiast mags are raving about the Cayman BTW, they seem to like it even better than the 997. . .

You raise a good point here. And the Cayman is likely to have better build quality as well. True, Porsche service and parts are outrageously expensive, but the Cayman is a brand-new model and, with the factory warranty, Stuttgart is likely to eat the cost of any unexpected repairs for at lesat the first several years.
