Agreed......and it also had the best interior, gauges, and perhaps even fit-and-finish.
This IMO was the best Accord ever built.

I don't remember a coupe being available in that generation Accord. Perhaps it was a non-U.S. model.Originally Posted by AmethySC

The 3rd gen was slightly better. 1986-1989, the motor had over 200k and still pulled very strongly! (for what it was a 110 hp 2 liter.) It was also lighter then the 4th gen quality was incorporated into the car considering time period. And it was in my oppinion more nimble then the 4th generation due to the lighter weight.Originally Posted by mmarshall

Sometimes Im tempted... in buying another one.... but I already have or kinda have 2 long term vehicles at once to deal with...
... hmm.. b16a swapped 3rd gen hatchback with all the na bolt ons with suspension work and nice set of 15 inch wheels with 205 azenis sports does sound like a nice daily commuter though... thad give it close to the same power to weight ratio as a Lexus GS430...
some ok.. examples
we didn't get this body type ...

Yes, coupe versons were available since 1988. As for the 90-93, we have a 90 coupe that my dad uses for work with about 240K miles on it. Anyway, all the 2 door coupe versions were built in the US or Canada only. None were built/assembled in the Japan.Originally Posted by mmarshall

OK.....the reason I was so impressed with the 1990-93 was its jewel-like precision assembly and fit-and-finish....probably the best of any Honda product I have seen before or since.Originally Posted by Inabj2

You may be correct about the lighter weight and better manuverability of the previous model but those are not big issues for me.
Thanks, Amethy...I didn't remember that generation 2-door as a U.S. model. I guess when you look at as many cars as I have over the years, you forget one once in a while.
I'll bet you liked that car, didn't you? The 4-door I remember test-driving brand-new was like a Rolex Watch. A number of manufacturers in the early 90's, however, had paint durability problems...which of course did not show up on brand-new cars. The EPA was forcing new paint formulas and painting processes at the time, ( to keep paint vapors from escaping upwards) and it took a few years to get it down pat without later problems. Usually what happened was fading and peeling after just a couple of years. Some manufacturers gave free re-paints up to a certain time period.

too bad pretty much all Hondas and Acuras are FWD
. Honestly though, despite the annoying desire to stick with FWD, Honda does well with it. See JDM Civic-R, Integra-R, CRX of old..

I agree 120%. That car is one of the grandest of all time. Comfy, great visibility, just perfect all around. Originally Posted by mmarshall

From there the car just got uglier and bigger and IMO, its not an Accord anymore, an Accord Armada if you will.
IMO, they should have made the European Accord (our TSX) the American Accord and made the USDM Accord the Acura TSX (That is a lot of Accords)
The TSX so reminds me of the older Accord we are talking about,Rookie

you're exactly right, the JDM Accord SHOULD be the Accord. However, in a country that thinks of "midsized" as what the Accord is, the TSX just wouldnt work. The same trend has taken over the Camry and Altima as well, they've become large and cheaper over time. Obviously you know how it goes in America, bigger= better Originally Posted by 1SICKLEX

That's why the Mazda 6 is my favourite in it's class right now . It has the looks, drives very well & is not too big.
