In the last few months, I've been researching Porsches and visiting other sites. Well, in the last few day's, the 6speeders have lost a very valuable member within their tight knit community. Since ClubLexus is also a very tight knit community that also treats their members as family and are dedicated car enthusiasts, you might want to jump over there and pay your respects.

I was up late when this news got posted late last night. The first board I checked was 6speedonline. It was very sad to read. I never knew or met this man but the impact he had on so many car enthusiasts is beyond words. Rennlist has shut down their board in honor of him and there are threads in FerrariChat and many other forums. The passenger was a pretty stand up guy to and Lamborghini owner from my understanding.

We will sticky this in honor a a true car enthusiast, Ben Keatons.

this is indeed very very sad.... i dont' know the guy as well, but knowing how great the rennlist community is, having so many people posting abut ben is something. he's definitely a dedicate top class guy among car enthusiast... deepest condolences to their families.

if i were in LA this weekend, i would really have gone to irvine to attend the gathering.... i showed my wife the threads yesterday and she was saddened too

Yes, I read about it on 6speedonline last night too, really said RIP

 

Excuse my ignorance, guys, but I didn't know much about him. The poster just said he died in a " track event "........which doesn't tell us much. Did he spin out and crack his car up? Or have a heart attack while driving (not as uncommon as one thinks)? Or die in some other kind of accident? I, of course join everyone else here in my condolences to family and friends, but let's hear a little more about what actually happened.

 

This is really sad, life can be so short...R.I.P.

"The passenger was another amazing guy and friend, Cory Rudl. I was with them both. Cory's Murceilago Roadster overheated early in the session. He was interested in buying a GT and Ben graciously offered Cory a seat to show him what the car could do. The entrance to the track was at the absolute worst place in the straight and an F-car was waived on in error as they came down the straight. It was just unthinkable something like this could happen. The driver waived on is by all accounts an excellent driver and was only doing what was instructed. I doubt he ever saw the car in such a blind spot coming on. May they both rest in peace and my heartfelt prayers for their families. Cory leaves behind a wonderful wife of just 30 days.......tragic isn't the word."

 

Very sad all around.

- Nice guy driver dies driving his passion. He may have been going too fast but after reading the details, its hard to fault him for what happened.

- Passenger dies trying to check out the car.

- Ferrari driver who was instructed to enter the track causing the Porsche to go off the road must feel absolutely terrible.

- Marshall who told the Ferrari driver to go, but then to stop but too later must feel absolutely terrible too.

It's just a terrible thing for everyone. Driving anywhere, but especially on a track, is absolutely not risk free no matter how good the car or the driver.

 

very true, it's all complete accident. no one wanted it to happen and it's just all bad timing coming together..... at least i think everyone did what they could to make it a safe environment already.

 

Ben by all accounts is a stand up guy, use to love reading his awesome put downs for idiot bull loving posters on 6speed.

It really is dangerous going to the track with your car. Even with all the safety crews, accidents will and do happen quite often. In fact the last 2 times I was out on the track with the teg, I witnessed an E46 M3 slamming into a wall and a Honda getting t-boned from an older Z.

Be safe but realize the risks involved with this dangerous hobby.

So sad to see anybody loose their life. RIP...
