I thought this thread was about marketing and advertisement of Infiniti and how it directly called out its competitor. Clearly, Infiniti and Nissan have power/hp as their main objective in advertising to THEIR audience. And I'm not sure if you've driven a BMW 3 series lately, hell, even ever, their interior quality is definitely not plush by Lexus standards.
I wont spend $30k on a car and have an interior that pales in comparison to say, a new Corolla?
This is for the older models too; I havent seen the new ones yet
That picture of the IS interior looks just fine to me?
Funny ad tho

Look at the cheap design of a center console and cheap hard plastic. lol
The new G35 has no hard plastic left in it at all. It's all soft.

its not all about HP or all about interior... when all said and done it comes to each individual sitting in their vehicle of choice and getting that good feeling in it..... there's a perfect medium for everyone.
I particularly do not like Infiniti/Nissan's styling too much, but the FX45's, and M45 is very nicely put together..... minus the weird hjgh cockpit on the M45..... QX56 is awesome! but when you sit in a Lexus you feel the Interior just indulge you (luxorious). When you sit in a BMW you feel like a real driver, as if the car was meant for you and the interior wraps around you.... when you sit in a Mercedes you feel fresh and important.... Audi's tend to feel fun and sporting..... but when I sit in Infiniti I dont get that one particular feeling.... its a great blend of everything but doesn't stand out at anything but blends in fast comfortable and fun. Now when you drive it, it feels like a real contender!!!
but not to discredit Infiniti in anyway, but I'm sure you can understand the "feeling" explanation.... Infiniti does a great job at providing the great medium between those characteristics and for an unbelievable price! But w/ that being said.... I dont think they'll ever get their prestige going that route. The perfect word for Infiniti IMHO is "Contender" probably will always be known as the "Top Contender" but never "THE" ..... just my .02 cents.
my personal fav? Audi's, but I just can't deal w/ the reliability issues.

When you are talking about sense of quietness and comfort, Lexus is the first car brand comes to my mind. But when you are talking about performance, BMW and Infiniti pop up. You gotta know that none of these car companies could do magic, they can't maintain both high comfort and high performance at the same time. You could do compromise to find the most balance point between the two, but can't do both extremely well. So do Lexus and BMW. The first things Lexus wants to achieve and has achieved are quietness and comfort, then followed by level of luxury and reliability and dealer service. There is no doubt Lexus is very successful in these areas. But don't try to fool yourself that Lexus is good in handling and steering feel and driver-car-connection. Infiniti definitely has surpassed Lexus in performance areas since the recent two or three years and currently right after BMW, if not already passed it. There are somethings Infiniti need to improve to become the true luxury car brand in America, such as materials they choose to put in the vehicles, but these things are relatively simpler. Actually all these car companies have their own strongs and weaks. Even BMW, its recent design has become controversial issue.
i dont know what the big complaint is about the interior of the Infiniti's. My moms FX has, what i think, an awesome interior. a great mix of aluminum look and leather. I dont really like the orange back lighting, but thats just me. if you guys think that the interior of it is cheap because that the aluminum isnt real, its just plastic. I raise you this question: what do you think Lexus puts in its interiors??? do you think that is real wood on the doors, and dash? Take a black light to the "wood" and tell me what you see.
anyway, back on topic. I like the new look of the G35. For some reason the Sedan looks WAY more appealing than it did at one point. I cant quite figure it out... but it looks better. The coupe looks better than it did as well. Id take it! But yes, that is a bold claim to be making to a company like BMW, who OWNS the HP wars between the luxury car makers....

It's real wood on Lexus cars, it's a layer of wood veneer on the surface, this has been proven with pics & discussed in length in a past thread.
More on topic, I'm a potential g35 owner and the ad does nothing for me. But, I'm not obsessed with HP numbers so much as overall performance and modability while remaining a solid and reliable daily driver. At around the same price level ($35-39k), a used 2004 v8 AWD Audi s4 does more for me, for performance and interior.

I'd expect that from a neon, or similarly priced car, but when the interior of a $35k vehicle starts looking shabby within two years, that's a quality issue. Besides, if comprimising lexus-like quality for sportier driving is the trade-off, bmw already has that covered.
