damn man-you wrecked a loaner was it totalled? I guess if you're gonna get in a wreck, it's better than being in your car

so did the dealer give you any crap? I'll bet you have a nice joke with your service writer......

I think what you are referring to is passive arming of an alarm.
Oh yeah....i didn't see restraint...i'm an idiot.

It is for the seat-belts.

Here's the story: I was driving east on a 4 lane urban street in the outside lane, speed limit 40mph. As I approached a stoplighted intersection, I noted a westbound green Nissan van waiting to turn left (across the eastbound lanes) at the light. There was no turn lane so she was stopped on the inside lane. There is also no green "turn" arrow for either direction at that intersection. I was going about 45 mph (traffic was light) and had JUST removed the Nissan from the "threat" list (she was stationary) mentally, returning my line of sight to directly ahead when I became aware of movement in my left peripheral vision. (This all happened in 2-3 seconds and things were happening in real time much faster than you might conclude from the narrative.) I realized that the Nissan van was turning left and stomped into the anitlocks as I turned to the right, hoping I could duck down the drive she was turning into. No luck. Things slowed down about this time (from my perception) and I looked up thru her passenger side window as I approached her right front quarter panel/passenger door. I noticed she was beginning to turn her head to look at me (with a very surprised look on her face) just as the IS hit her, centered on her A-pillar. Both airbags went off (very strange to watch in what was still, subjectively, slow motion), and then, as I ricocheted off her, time resumed normal pace. The IS bounced across the curb, a short green space, missed a building sign, and stopped perfectly centered in a parking space (which coincidentally is the one that I normally park in when I get my hair cut in that very building).

Turned off the car (that big six was still trying to run), pushed open the door after reclaiming my glasses from the floor, and went to check on the driver of the Nissan (I'm a doctor; kind of a reflexive thing). She was OK so I called the service manager at Lexus (figured he deserved to hear it from me first; the receptionist told me he was in the morning meeting when I told her that their new car was broken, but decided to put me through to him when I told her HOW) and he shortly showed up with the sales manager and another car. The police came, she got the ticket (failure to yield), and I went to work in the second loaner. And the IS was definitely totaled.

The dealership actually came out ahead, financially, when all was said and done, so the SM and the service writer do joke with me about it (like: "Can you get this one whacked today?? We want to make a little more off of it than we get selling it..........", that sort of thing. )

Insurance: $418/6 months with
"Multiple line - $80.07
Multicar - $89.84
Vehicle safety - $18.53
Accident free - $83.13" (the accident described was not charged to me since the other driver rcvd the ticket, even tho we are a "no fault" state).

And that's the way it was....................

Upon our renewal I was notified by our agent that we now qualified for the ultra-preferred plan. From what I understand, it's a mixture of age, driving record, multiple coverages (home/life/auto), low amount of claims, and a high credit score. I was notified by Farmers that they checked my credit record about 3 weeks ago.

Take care.
