Toyota recalling Kentucky-made Avalons

Detroit News staff, wire and Bloomberg News reports

More than 4,900 of Toyota's redesigned Avalon sedans are being recalled for potential steering problems. The recall comes weeks after the debut of the car, which is made only in Georgetown, Ky. Toyota spokeswoman Allison Takahashi said the steering column on some early production models may not have been welded properly, creating the possibility that drivers could lose control. One person reported the problem, Takahashi said, but no accidents have been reported. Toyota began building the redesigned Avalon in January, and it began showing up at dealerships in February.

That really stinks. A steering column ... that is a serious problem. Thank heavens Toyota recalled this really early.

Frankly, there is one glaring flaw I see with the new Avalon, which may lead to a host of problems: the fact that it was built too fast. I read it was somewhere around 18 months where the Avalon went from concept to production. I think it was built too quickly, and not all issues were properly sorted out.

Come on Toyota ... don't lose focus here. The worst thing that could happen to Toyota is if their quality drops, and it bruises their reputation.

not welded properly means some dumbass on the line didn't do his job right. which is exactly why american made cars are such hit and miss with the quality

Default the problem

most people on the lines drive at least a hour each morning to work, and thats a heck of a drive in ky. Few friends drove 160 each day to work 10 hours a day. Not laziness, but prob a simple problem.
