It's because the big 3 of Germany have made some idiotic comments about how Lexus is not a true competitor and how they're not prepared for Europe. We, being Lexus customers, tend to disagree. MB is the most direct competitor to Lexus so they come up more often. However, if you paid closer attention you'd hear us saying a lot of negative things about BMW's Bangled designs and iDrive, Audi's hungry nostril grille, Cadillac's cheap interior qualities, Lincoln's inability to contend in the luxury market, and Jaguar's history (although improved) of poor reliability.

I don't wanna sound like all we do is talk negative, because we also have much to praise about these car companies. I'm sure many have said Lexus has bland styling and gives their cars no sporting characteristics. Remember, we ARE a Lexus board, and like any car board out there, there will be biases. I'm admitting that outright, but MB gets the most heat due to their shoddy build quality, high prices, and most importantly, direct competition with Lexus vehicles.

And MB's crap construction has been going on that long. Our 1998 C280...ahh screw it, it's a piece. There's a fricken site devoted to lemon MBs. Like I said it's a Lexus board and MB is their main competitor. The build quality just makes it easier to rank on them for because that's something Lexus excels in. I'm sure the MB boards are saying how boring and sterile the Lexus styling and driving experience are.

I can't really put my finger on what irks me about MB. Maybe it's how they were once the king of reliability and have fallen so far yet continue try and pretend nothing is wrong. If you take a piece of dog poo and put it in a pretty box, it's still dog poo in a box.

Maybe it's the arrogance of the dealers/corporation. You can spend $80k at one and still be treated like garbage.

Or maybe it's the fact that Daimler Chrysler knows all this is going on and still turns a blind eye. Then has the ***** to say that another company isn't prepared for the Global Market. With all that going on they still have the arrogance/ignorance/cluelessness to talk smack.

Honestly, MB reminds of the 80's Glam Bands that still go out and tour. They're livin on yesterdays glory.

Benz= good fight
Jag=slaughter. They are barely even worth mentioning nowadays. Sad, as I am a Jag fan, or was.

So what? That's the most irrelevant argument I've heard you make yet. And guess what, Levis in Germany are "designer" and cost 10 times as much...does that even apply here? About as much as your point does.

Look, Lexus and MB are both luxury vehicles in the US focused on luxury moreso than sport and cost a premium. They offer many of the same things up until the $100k mark. Please tell me who is Lexus' closest competitor and why.

Jim....the way I see it, Lexus' main competitors would vary by individual cars, not by the brand as a whole....would you agree?

Example:

IS300..................................BMW 330.
IS300 SportCross............Audi A4 Avant Wagon
GS300................................BMW 528 or 530
GS430................................BMW 540, Infiniti M45
SC430................................Mercedes SL500
LS430.................................Mercedes S500, Infiniti Q45
RX330.................................Acura MDX
GX470.................................Infiniti QX56
LX470..................................Range Rover, Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator

MMarshall, the CLK 430/500 convertibles is actually a closer competitor to the SC in terms of price than the SL although they're not hardtops, there are people that cross-shop both SL's & CLK's with the SC.

Closer? Maybe...maybe not. Hard to say.... but you have a valid point , though. I won't disagree. The SL has a folding hard top like the SC but is substantially more expensive, even in SL500 vs 600 form. An SL600, of course, is REAL money.

I don't know what the heck is going on recently but we are getting an influx of members from clearly, other forums, who have not come here to share info but have come here to argue and destroy threads and wreck havoc here.

IT won't LAST.
