I wonder what car will be able to stop faster SLR or GS4xx?
nah, i don't think people meant that. some people, including me, don't really promote street racing. provided that i sometimes get on it and race with people too, but i hardly post up my racing stories, coz' i don't promote it. i don't think anyone is really against the mb here

The SLR is supercharged? That whine sounds annoying.
I'm guessing it's supercharged, since a TT setup would be too heavy.

The engine is huge, I bet w/o the FI it still weighs twice as much as the Enzo's 6.0L V12. I wonder how Pagani managed to mid mount that thing.

The car is very fast, they trap ~130mph.

The SLR and baby SLR upcoming are produced with McLaren. McLaren basically got overridden over many decisions. Why the car is so big and weighs so much compared to other super cars. This one still had to be a "Benz". Clarkson picked it over the Porsche GT, b/c it can perfom with that car 9/10ths of the time at 9/10ths (Top Gear).
I think it looks too weird compared to the beautiful concept. There is no denying the fact it is an amazing car.

I love the sound the SLR makes. Sweeeet!!!
Actually I'd preffer those cars being pushed like that on the street rather then be stuck behind one in the left freeway lane doing 60mph. Most of those cars don't even see high speeds or high acceleration with all the rich old conservative people driving them. Cool races, thumbs up.

. . . & I'll take both the Carrera GT & Enzo over it too. That exterior design of the SLR still haven't grown on me.

Personally I would say 7/10ths the sports car myself...the car really is more of a GT than the Carrera GT. I imagine McLaren really hoped to build a high-perfmance supercar but MB's engine just wouldn't cut it.

If you think about it, McLaren had nothing better to work with thanks to the provided motor.

-the engine is too big: high center of gravity and too much weight, needs extra cooling
-extra cooling: bigger heavier car
-auto needs extra cooling
-FI adds lots of weight: more cooling issues
-too much torque: bigger clutch raises center of gravity, torque upsets balance of car on roadcourses, requries heavier/larger drivetrain
-very difficult to mid-mount the motor: it is always preferable in a sports car to keep the engine and heavy components between the axles.
-FI always has poor engine dynamics compared to an equally powerful NA engine...especially when driving at the track in the upper rev range.

If you compare the Nurburing track times, the SLR will never come close or enter the same class as the Carrera GT. Anyone can easily build a GT2 to run circles around the SLR w/much more reliability. I would think a stock GT2 can beat an SLR easily.

No matter how hard a GT2 owner tries they will never be able to compete with a properly driver Carrera GT on any respectable and challenging roadcourse.

I wouldnt take the track times on TopGear's track too seriously. It isnt even a closd loop, and was simply a testing facility. I think the C6 was faster than the GT3, there is no way a stock C5 Z06 is even in the same class. The Pagani Zonda is 5+sec faster than the lambo Murcilago...even though they said the Murci handles better, and is easier to drive.

Sorry for the long @ss post....my roomate uses the bathroom all damn day.
