I always laugh when I see people from outside of California complain about the price of gas. I'm sure Europeans are doing the same about us. So what's the point? At the end of the day, everyone pays it... and no one has a problem when it comes to buying that new suv they saw on tv...

As of today, best price I have seen in TX for 93 is $2.11. While thats harsh, last week when I was in Vegas, I paid $2.79 for 91. That hurt like hell. And, I know it's coming this way. I'm about ready to start prospecting for oil in my backyard. On the flip side, this would be a wonderful time to invest in oil well drilling/development and oil futures.

SInce the prices will only go higher for now, this has to effect buying habits. If it does not, it really would be clear we are not willing to sacrifice to more fuel efficient cars and the oil companies will truly have us by the *****. Well, they already do, but they will squeeze harder.

As for oil companies having us by the b---s, it's not so much the oil companies as the OPEC nations and oil ministers. Because the shortage of oil worldwide is so acute now (but not yet to the point that we have long lines at the pumps) they can pretty much charge what the market will bear. Saudi Arabia's oil minister has announced an increase in production to help stabilize prices...even they realize it is not in their best interest to bleed us dry.
What we REALLY need is self-sufficiency here at home..and that is going to mean more refineries and maybe more drilling.

Toyota and Honda maybe can now sell these cars for what they actually cost to produce...up to now they have been losing money on every sale....even at 20-25K.
