yea, 4wd is when the car is driven with the front wheels, until slippage... then it uses all 4 wheels to prevent slipping... AWD is always using 4 wheels to drive the car

the reaction time for 4wd is very very fast, but when you have all the wheels driving all the time, there is no reaction time

Looks cool. Didn't know AWD was available either. From what I know, 4wd is engagable, while AWD is full time. AWD has a viscous coupling, allowing for a torque bias between the front and rear wheels while 4WD has the chain which connects the front wheels to the rear driveshaft or vice versa. Pretty sure I'm close on that, but I have not a clue what V-Flex is. Maybe Toyota's adaptive AWD or something? Let us know when you find out. Good job keeping it all (well, mostly) in the family.

I think the S/C system don't work with AWD Matrix XR. Better do research before actually buying one

edit:

read about it here. I think it will fit but more work in installation

Uh, not really...True 4WD is usually rear wheels driven all the time, and then a "hi" 4WD and "lo" 4WD (via transfer case). I can't think of any 4WD cars off the top of my head. Then you have true AWD cars like Subaru with 50/50 split and "cheating AWD" cars which are based on FWD platforms and usually can do no better than 60/40 and in some really laughable cases, such as the MDX, drives the front wheels only until the rear wheels are needed...Which, obviously, is not as good as a true AWD car or 4WD truck.

You were right about the AWD, obviously.

Is 4WD a new option for 04 or is it one of those hidden options that's not really talked about with the Matrix...

ever since Matrix was out it had 4WD option for XR models. That means you can't have both the 180hp 2ZZ-GE engine and the 4WD. Either FF with 180hp or 4WD with the weaker one.

But now there's the S/C and seems like it can fit with some adjustments, so it's all good.

Matrix is a nice car. Lots of space, looks nice, easy to drive, great value.

A member at matrixowners.com has already installed the SC in his 4WD matrix as well with a pretty good outcome. I wanted the AWD and did not mind the lower HP (this is not a race car) however now that i know that the SC is available, it might be something worthwhile to put it like EMERIL would..."KICK IT UP A NOTCH!"

Nothing has been done to the 7 yet, it looks pretty good from factory already...it does scream for 21's or 22's...but its winter here....maybe when the summer time comes i will have to be seriously debated.

Its definately not my winter car. I rent a garage about 12 miles from my house where it is currently stored (have you seen pictures of my garage, it doesn't fit ). The car is pretty filthy and not worthy to take pictures of ...soon enough however I'll post pictures for all to enjoy.

She's safe.......The iron gate itself to the complex weights 4 tons and opens up by remote only......i'm very comfortable where it is parked....and insurance is not cheap but worth it for peace of mind.

Nice looking car...it's funny when you said "extra cash" and then you buy a car!!!

When I have extra cash the only thing I can buy is a decent meal at Taco Bell!!! Lol.
