Electricity usage/cost thread
very interesting. Does California have excess electricity generation? up here we have very cheap electricity. We pay on average $.10 USD per kWh. Quebec is $.5c USD. we also export electricity to the United States. We have very few coal power plants , but we exported a lot of coal to China for power generation
Renewables only increase cost. That's the whole issue, if you want to reduce costs you need nat gas or ideally nuclear since it's the best of all worlds outside of time to market.
Canada has the cheapest electricity in North America and it’s 65% renewable from hydroelectric. Quebec electricity (95% renewable) is so cheap, they turn off the turbines at night and import nuclear electricity from Ontario when there is no demand at night and when demand hits in the peak day period the turbines turn back on, the dams open and the stored water flows into the turbines creates electricity that is sold back into the Ontario market at peak times for profit. There is so much excess electricity that many northern US states purchase electricity from Canada
We unfortunately don't have huge dams here, which is why hydro only accounts for 10 percent. We only have one nuclear power plant (Diablo Canyon) and thanks to Jane Fonda (thanks Jane Fonda
), will never be getting any more
