BMW owners claiming that any BMW newer than their particular BMW is an inferior product is a tale old as time.

Its just a preference - i have a new 2026 X5 and i have old M3.
I much prefer the old M3 in EVERY single way. There is nothing that the new car does better.

If i can go back and purchase the previous gen X5 to the one I have as new, I would do it in a heartbeat.

I did the same with 911 - went backwards and gave up my allocation for a
new one.

New cars are way too digital and not built to the same quality.
Yes they are more capable and faster but remove you more from the actual driving engagement.

The new Gen X3 was a huge departure from G01 generation. It feels like a much more inferior product.

The new interior design on the X5 is a big no for me and why i got the 2026MY.

Its sad that there is no unique design language anymore for all these brands, just huge screens and tacky lighting elements.

BTW new X5 will no longer have split tailgate which many existing owners really liked.
We will be buying another X7 in couple years. If the new redesign X7 adapts that interior, we will buy the last model year of the current generation.

I agree here. I also agree I would rather have a pre refresh X5 or a pre refresh X7. I wouldn’t buy a used one, but I prefer those designs.

There was a point where BMW peaked, and now they are on the decline, both from the too much tech on the interior, and the hybridisation of all drivetrains.

I drove a pre LCI and LCI (mild hybrid) X7 back to back and I prefer the mild hybrid X7. The mild hybrid felt quicker and more smooth to me. Also it may be more efficient from a mpg standpoint. YMMV

Agreed - The mild hybrid bs is all for epa and I have owned almost every BMW inline 6 since the N54.

I also owned the pre hybrid and hybrid B58 - no noticeable difference in fuel economy. Start/Stop sucks and first thing i disable every ******* time I start the car.

I feel bad for automakers bec they have to play these games and waste $$$ instead of making the investment to improve ICE only performance.

Mild hybrid is not only for EPA, it’s required for some of the active body control features. 48v is the future carmakers are just too cheap to bring the whole car’s electronic suite out of the 12v era so you have this Frankenstein thing of 48v and 12v.

Having owned the same engine now with 12v and 48v, the 48v is better.

The latest M5 with all of its hybrid tech can't hold a candle to the previous generation, expect the same from the upcoming X5M.

Like RNM said, manufacturers are held hostage to the EPA crap, and have to neuter their engines. If common sense ever returns and this stuff is done with, I would love a BMW M car with NA V8 or V10 that revs to the moon.

The "EPA crap" is basically gone. At least for now. The EPA rescinded the legal basis for regulating GHG emissions and the fines for not meeting CAFE standards were reduced to zero rendering them moot. Remember, though, that was implemented by executive fiat can be instantly unimplemented by executive fiat. And also that despite all the "EPA crap", engines have never been more powerful, cleaner and efficient.

So look forward to dirty, inefficient engines from the US legacies while the best of the global OEMs continue to build great, efficient, clean and powerful engines that will leave our big V8s with frankly terrible specific output in the dust.
