I like all the safety engineering that was overdone... the windscreen frame can withstand 4xs the weight of the car in the event of a rollover? Geez. They said they wanted to make the R129 as safe as a convential MB sedan... I bet they met or came very close to their mark. One thing I have noticed is that when I forget to buckle up (it happens) I'll notice and realize how dangerous convertibles can potentially be, it wouldn't be hard to slip out and die in a wreck unbelted. But even the seatbelts are fancy and nice to use, MW even commented on that in 1990. They grip you snugly and (satisfyingly) securely in place differently than all the other cars.

I know it's older than dirt but I still feel plennnnnnty safe driving it. It is a tank.
