ear Lexus owners, does your vehicle have aftermarket security wheel locks?
Years ago while having my vehicle serviced at a local tire facility, an employee overlooked returning the special wheel lock-key to its storage location next to the spare tire in the trunk. For some reason I was diligent enough to check the trunk before leaving and the employee returned the special socket tool. If you have the security wheel locks, you know a special key-socket-tool is necessary to remove your wheels.
I write to you as I recently discovered the special key-tool missing and that created an “oh shat” moment as I had not completed the registration card years ago. After scrounging through purchase documents, I found the aftermarket company, completed the online registration, and ordered two of the special purpose key-tools. They arrived and averted potential stranded moment. One tool secured at home and the other stored near the spare tire.
I share this story and hope it jogs your memory to get it registered and maybe order a backup key-tool before calamity visits.
Special Wheel Socket Key Tool and attractive storage bag
My key went missing a few years ago. I pounded a slightly-too-small socket onto the lock with a small sledgehammer, then zipped them off with my impact gun. A bit noisy, but took less than 10 minutes to do all 4. Replaced them with traditional lugs.
I was recently replacing brake pads on wife's 530 and the stupid key broke. Instead of chasing a replacement (and possibly stripping it again), I went to the BMW dealer I bought the car from (friend is a manager) and got them to take the stupid things off (and replace with regular lugs I found in the trunk). If a thief wants your wheels, the stupid things will not stop him.
