Default Lexus GX 550 Overtrail vs Toyota Land Cruiser Premium: Who Makes a Better $70K SUV???

My latest review article -- https://www.clublexus.com/articles/g...uiser-premium/

And video --

I went to Lexus/Toyota HQ earlier this year where I learned about stuff like Lexus Ownership Benefits. But during my lunch break, I got to drive three vehicles. I knew that I wanted to compare the new GX to the Land Cruiser because it might be my only chance to ever drive the twin-turbo V6 literally back to back against the turbo 4-cylinder hybrid system. And as my luck went, it turned out that both of these SUV siblings (cousins?) had shockingly close MSRPs, which only helped in making a comparison.

Let me know if you have any questions that I didn't answer in the article or video. I also got to drive a Crown Signia, which was lovely all around. So that'll be coming soon too.

Just look at those messes under the hoods. Even Motor Trend in an article I read today, they admitted they miss the V8s.

Lexus all the way, shame the engine is a grenade. The rest of the car is fantastic IMO

Agree, though the interior isn't as nice as the old GX...

And yep, I had to tow the boat a decent stretch today....love hearing the burly *** V8 actually having to work. 2nd gear start to get it out of the water, no problem at all. It'll still accelerate fairly quickly even when towing a 4,000lb load. And it'll never break.

I’m thinking more and more about picking up a GX. Our friends that just traded their GX460 for a GX550 keep raving about how much better it is. My wife, who doesn’t care much about cars, loves it. Wish they offered a hybrid but maybe they will by the time we’re ready?

With the way Toyota is going a hybrid is definitely on the way.

Lexus has stated a GX hybrid is in the works, just hasn't given a date as to when it will become available. Probably after they catch up with demand on the V6.

Hope they work out the issues with that motor, I also like the GX a lot too.

Style and power, I'd prefer the GX.

But I don't want a vehicle that I know is going to blow up in less than 30k miles. So I'd have to go with the slow Land Cruiser.

Might as well find a lightly used 200 that’s sat in a garage—.they'll be around the same price.

I’m pretty disappointed with the LC. The GX I do like but it needs a V8.

I love the GX in the Overtrail trim. Just can't trust the engine yet.

Maybe 2026 MY GX's and beyond will be safe?

I'm just not into the J200's styling. IMO it's the blandest of all the LC/LX generations. I'd prefer to go back to the J80 at that point. Otherwise if I was looking for a half-ton based V8 powered SUV, I'd just go domestic.

Right.....

The Denali has its perks over the LX, and vice versa.
