Outside of wealth concentration in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou the scene is quite different and lots of old cars and bikes still fuming about.

But what is apparent is that once upon a time, the middle class had a desire to buy and own European cars for image. This has died completely and now they are content buying a locally made EV with all the gadgets at half the price.

The competition in this industry, just like any other industry in China, is crazy. They come up with new models every year to survive and stand out from the total of over100 of brands.
The fact is any type of consumer will have dozens of options to choose from, no matter the budget. And the options do include a handful of non-Chinese brands like Tesla and Porsche.

I'm not seeing myself buying any EV outside of China because I know I'll be spending double the money on something half as good.
I have a Chinese built EV, a 2022 Polestar 2 Dual Motor and it's a well rounded, well built car. My biggest issues I've had with it have been buggy software, but they have resolved a lot of them over the last almost three years

I think the Chinese have the potential to dominate the EV market, but my biggest concern is software, buggy software can sour the EV experience, there were many P2's that were bricked or experienced issues due to software early on when Polestar launched the P2

does polestar have any kind of driving assistance? hyundai's hda isn't like fsd but it does allow long stretches of hands off driving on interstates now which is great.

Yes, it has something called "Pilot Pack" for the P2, but it's more of a drivers assist than anything else. P3 is supposed to have more advanced features like lane change etc, but from what I've been seeing with P4 reviews is it doesn't work very well

Chinese did not believe in FSD like systems so only recently did they start investing in them... pretty much every Chinese BEV i saw tested had problems with line keep and centering, let alone anything else.

Given a choice, I'd prefer not to buy any vehicle from China. The workers in Chinese plants are not given anywhere near the treatment, wages, and benefits that they are here in the U.S. and/or in unionized plants on other countries. It's bad enough that we have to buy Chinese-made merchandise in stores like Walmart and Target....at least with vehicles, we have more of a choice.

  • Xiaomi’s new SU7 Ultra electric sedan has reportedly lapped the Nurburgring Nordschleife in a crazy 6:46.874.
  • If true, the Ultra is more than 20 seconds faster than the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and also wastes the Rimac Nevera.
  • The 1,527 hp SU7 Ultra is expected to debut later today and it should reach 62 mph from rest in under 2 seconds

Don't just think of the Chinese as making cheap EV's to under cut traditional automakers, they are going after the likes of Porsche as well.
