Default Need help and opinion for the winter

i am planning to store my sc and get an SUV for the winter. I've been stuck everywhere last winter with my sc so an SUV is a must. I was thinking about getting a used 2002 WRX. I live in canada so having an SUV and a car is more logical than having 2 cars...i think. Which one would you get, 1999 Infiniti qx4, or 2000 Isuzu rodeo LSE (w/ leather...a must)? Maybe 2002 WRX??? If u have owned a qx4..is it really that slow? (168hp @ 4800 vs Rodeo's 205hp @ 5400) I like how they look...but i prefer Rodeo since i see more qx4. I'm not planning to go fast but the extra power is appreciated. I mean...i just want an SUV that's comfortable cruising at 80 mph. I know it wouldn't be as smooth as my sc... lol..i average 90 mph in my sc. I'll be mostly driving in the highway since i commute to school....bout 60 miles, 3 times a week. I'm reluctant to get a rodeo cause i don't know about their reliability...but what about the qx4? Any advice and opinions would be appreciated here because we drive an sc and you know where i'm coming from and you know nothing can beat an sc in comfort in the highway.

Why don't you invest in a nice set of winter tires and steelies?
It costs about $850cad total for a set of Hakka's and steelies for the SC.

It makes a world of a difference. I don't even get stuck anymore!

Where in Canada do you live?

I think you need AWD/4WD in the snow. My vote is for the QX4 due to its higher class than the Isuzu. They look pretty good with a set of rims incase you ever wanna let the SC have a break and take the QX out on the town.

WRX's are good cars, but you already have a car and an SUV could round out your autos...unless you have funds for both.

it doesn't matter what tires u get for the snow. the sc is still a very bad car for the snow. with it's open diff, rear wheel drive AND no trac for some of us... It will be a nightmare. Can i say BUS?

get a wrx if u want to have a fun car. They are a BLAST to drive but if u are the more laid back type of person get a suv.

Go SUV for ground clearance. I use a Jeep Grand Cherokee LTD for the winter. It has leather and all the goodies and never, ever have I been stuck and we had over 10 feet total accumulation of snow last year in NH.

If he lives in Canada, he probably has traction control.
I know you can't compare a new set of winter tires to a 4x4 vehicle, but think about the costs.

$1000 for a nice set of tires or $30 000 for a whole new car?

Unless you are set on buying another vehicle you should really consider.

QX4 is a much more luxurious vehicle.

Since these are used vehicles you are looking at...how much mileage for each and price? That would probably help make a better call!

Default SUV vs WRX

While I think you'll "enjoy" driving the WRX more as a winter car, I think the fact remains that you live in Canada and will get ALOT of snow and often high enough accumulation that the WRX even with its AWD will be useless. You need ground clearance, get the SUV.

That's what I use every time I go to Mammoth or Squaw Valley - Lake Tahoe.
