Hybrid sales booming
Hybrids aren't a long term solution in that they don't free us from using oil, thats the point. Ultimately the future is going to be oil free, that future is just a long way off.
The thing about PHEVs are that they just aren't as impressive to drive as an EV. I LOVE the PHEV powertrain in the Pacifica, but I am really on the fence about say a PHEV S580e...in a car like that I want a powertrain that really wows me, and to me thats either the V8 or its a full EV.

Thats just absurd. Far and away the main usage of petroleum is for gasoline, 2/3rds of it is used for gasoline as a fact. Reducing or eliminating the use of petroleum to power vehicles would in fact cut the use of petroleum by 2/3rds. Because...math.
My mother recently bought a 2024 NX350h AWD, replacing her 2008 RX350 AWD. The mpg, range and familiarity with Lexus were some selling points. It operates smoothly and engine drone is suppressed compared to older systems from my experience. One of the coolest features has to be the digital mirror. Not only does it eliminate the rear pillars, headrests etc from view, but programming homelink was neat. Holding the remote to the mirror as normal but once it caught the signal a digital menu appears on the screen and you just follow the instructions with the button on the mirror and done. Didn't have to climb on a ladder to press the training button. Admittedly I've been a little out of the car game since changing careers so it was a new feature to me
Nobody buys a BEV to save the environment. I own 3 (if you count my daughters Bolt which we technically loaned her the down payment, four) and I'm no environmentalist, although I do have a vegetable garden. If you want to know why we've switched to BEV, come visit us in EV chat. Climate is already F'ed
ok folks, let's stay out of 'climate change' debate, and whether ev's are 'better' or not is not relevant.
the point is, hybrid sales are booming, but again, what i don't get is whether car companies do well with them from a profitability standpoint... packing an electric drivetrain AND an ice drivetrain AND the gearing/control to switch between them can't be cheap. i don't hang out at dealers checking inventory but my impression is for vehicles available in non-hybrid and hybrid configs the latter is often in short (or no) supply.

edit: my bad you said 4 with bolt
