i guess 'worst case' (batteries depleted) the gas engine 'generator' can provide enough power to drive the electric motors.

its using the V6 because the frame is already designed for the V6 because V6 etorque is a current option and a future option with the two new inline 6 turbo hurricane engines since the V8 is gone from the 2025 Ram next year. The V6 is not connected to the drivetrain and its only there to recharge the battery. Thats how its getting 690 mile range

This thing fixes the primary drawback of EVs while still having the benefits of a EV. 145 mile electric only range will take care of 90% of peoples normal driving, recharge at home, then you have the ability to go 690 miles on a full battery and full gas tank. With 690 miles non towing, it will get decent tow range that you dont have to stop and charge every 90 miles for. You can power a house just like the F150 hybrid if you need to in an emergency.

main stickler is i have the feeling this thing is going to be expensive, but this blows the doors off any full EV truck on the market in useability.

It's only a problem for people who tow, which most don't do. I own four EV'S (and have owned EV'S since 2020) and no issues here. Our only gasoline powered vehicle mostly sits and gets used like twice a year

if this comes out at the same price as the other full EV truck offerings, those offerings are toast. The low range of full a EV truck is not just a problem to people who tow. An EV truck is now attractive to people who drive a lot, tow, or live rurally. What is there to even dislike? You get the best of both worlds the power and efficiency of EV with the range (better range) than an ICE truck.

You misunderstood me. If you read my previous posts, I agree with you 100 percent. My first post was a misunderstanding, my fault for not reading the article. I agree with you, this is an excellent compromise for people who tow or live in rural areas

Gotta be pig heavy, even compared to F-150 Lightning. Price? Ain't gonna be cheap.
Interesting times ahead. I wish the Ramcharger luck!

Definitely interesting. This is pretty much the only way I can see an EV truck being able to really pull for any kind of distance. I'm curious how fast the battery will deplete when pulling a sizeable load, but I assume the gas generator would be able to keep up (probably running the whole time?). Even if the range was cut in half while towing, that will still give you over 300 miles on a tank, and then you have the ability to refuel quickly and easily at a regular gas station as you would with any truck pulling a trailer. This truck will be heavy, but that's a benefit to towing, and with all of that torque, I bet it would be an enjoyable towing experience.

3.6 V6 pentastar is 290 hp or so which is 216kW, plenty enough to charge the battery and probably optimized to run at an efficient rpm to charge the battery

as long as you don't mind the noise of a constant rpm lawn mower going all the time.

I'm curious as well. I probably would have gone with an NA 4-banger, make it as small, light, and efficient as possible. Much like how the old i3 used a 650cc two-cylinder.

Actually, turns out that appears to be the answer to your question. The Pentastar weighs 44 lbs less than the 2.0T.

Its also more effective in terms of BSFC for constant RPM operation. Same reason stationary generators are always "large" relative to what is needed
