I consider a car "old" once you have to start doing services that have long maintenance intervals. Things like coolant, rubber seals and bushings, transmission fluid filter replacement, gasket replacement, etc.
I also have largely stopped caring about having the “latest thing”. I am perfectly happy with both of our cars from a design and tech perspective, having the previous generation model bo longer bothers me.
With that said I still don’t want to buy used cars.
Age is probably not a good measure...Condition is. You can have 2 cars of the same age. One you want to push off the Cliff and the other you still want to detail and polish.
Same applies to spouses, right?
Age, like time, is a concept. I think more in terms of condition, serviceability, comfort, safety, and of course...love (of one's vehicle, or spouse).

Your comment made me think about the fact that, despite sticking to our 12-year cycle (replacing one car roughly every 6 years), this is the first time EVER that both of our cars have been of the current generation at the same time. It's just by chance though, as the 4M Q7 (ours is a 2018) is about to see a rare second major refresh for 2024, with no new model due until 2027.
