thanks. obviously my understanding of the term heat map was off, ha!
i guess you're right, i don't even know. i don't think illuminating the controls on the side of the seat is that helpful and those you posted are super ugly.
Prestige, no point in doing it other than to have some extra detail other cars do not have. I like it since it's extremely rare to have illuminated side mounted seat controls.
Why do you think they are ugly? I think they did a good job with the inlayed metal and the multi-function control that manages length, bolsters, lumbar 1&2, upper seatback, and massage settings from one control that is still physical. You don't have a lot of controls to memorize, doesn't rely on a screen interface/can be used blind and in motion easy, and it's still nearly direct access.
It also allows them to put wider seats in. You can’t fit your hand down between the seat and the closed door panel
Yep, a good way to allow a wider seat and you don't have to ever worry about some idiot kicking the controls. I also prefer how you have all seat related controls by the seat, most have the heat/cooling off by the HVAC cluster and while that also makes sense I prefer clustered controls.
If I complained about this GLE or GLE in general, I would complain about the placement of lock/unlock buttons and those buttons to control the seat. Such a weird spot to lock/unlock the car when you're inside. And that piece on the top of all... Crazy ergonomic design. Did you all know it's up and down? Such a weird place/design.
What is the point of these cars? I ask in seriousness. Same with the X6M etc. Why would anybody get this over an SUV or even a car? They don't have any more room and the roof line seems worse. They look like raised CUV's, just a horrible design. That price is also totally ridiculous unless that's Canadian?
Ive never found them awkward to use…takes a little getting used to but now whenever I get in a car I always reach up to the door expecting f then to be there
i find them awkward to use with left hand (too close) or right hand (too far).
reaching down to the left side of the seat feels very easy and convenient and no one needs to see the controls, they're obvious. as for door controls allowing for 'bigger seats'... LOL i don't think so, maybe bigger door storage pockets?

ha, i think they're awesome. not everyone needs a square box, but loads of people like the higher seating position combined with incredible performance.
you could easily argue the same for what's the 'point' of sports cars in general.
Yes but a high performance car sitting up high makes no sense to me. You're getting worse handling and no extra room. Even though I find performance SUV's ridiculous too, at least you get some extra usable space, not the case here. It's basically a round high car. Sports cars make plenty of sense if you enjoy performance, this "car" costs as much as a GT3, which is an actual sports car.

These are fashion statements for rich people.
G wagon is the ultimate fashion statement - it’s probably the least comfortable and useful SUV for normal on-road driving.
I don't think my G-wagen drives any worse than a 4Runner and definitely better than a Wrangler.
4 Runner actually has cargo space and spacious back seat.
Gwagon is not a great SUV for driving around town or going to the mall - i much rather do that in GLE or GLS. New ones are better compared to original Gwagons though.

dang paying that much to have a ride similar to 4runner? priorities are diffrent for different folks for sure.

yeah I think they’re awkward too. And they are because they put your hands in an awkward position rather than the usual comfortable position when the controls are down by the seat. but i guess anything can be overlooked if you're into other things.

Its all what you get used to, I don't find them awkward.

Why would you assume that they woild allow for bigger door pockets and not wider seats? My door pockets are smaller than the door pockets in my LS cars, and the seats in my S Class are definitely wider.
