Default GS450h hybrid battery issue

Hi guys, new to the forum. I bought an 06 GS450h and it has around 78,000 kms on it.The hybrid battery error codes came up and I went to the dealer and it needs a new hybrid battery. Has anyone else experienced this issue out of warranty. I don't have the money to fix it with the dealer, it is more than a year out of warranty even though the mileage is half of warranty mileage (8 years or 160,000 kms)
How do you guys deal with this? what are your experiences? Did anyone get Lexus to cover these issues if the car had such low mileage?

Check out this post on the HackaDay forum.

It was a Camry battery, but it only cost the guy $10 worth of supplies to fix the battery.

Hey, thanks for the link, appreciate it. Yes the Lexus hybrid battery is different but similar solutions should work. I've seen this fix as well as testing the voltage and ordering new cells but I was wondering if anyone went through this ordeal with the dealership and what they did?

I would start by emailing Lexus corporate. Lots of guys on here have contacted them with issues outside of warranty and they've been able to provide some assistance. I would definitely call your issue strange. I used to work in the taxi industry and those guys run well over 500K kms on original hybrid battery.

Thanks for the reply. Since I didnt get a reponse here on the forums, I spoke to corporate for a few weeks and now they're willing to cover half of it but with 78,000 kms on the car I'd want them to cover all of it, the warranty time limit has expired though. Also their quote is $6700 which is very high imo. Unfortunately seems they wont cover all of it because the time limit has expired even though the mileage is at half of the 160,000 warranty kms.

I've seen that article about Taxi's and the Toyota hybrid batteries lasting 500k or more easily however I read online the Toyota hybrid batteries are different than the Lexus hybrid batteries so I dont know what went wrong so early with this hybrid battery but its a huge out of pocket cost for a Toyota/Lexus. Not even the gas savings can cover hybrid battery replacement...
