I tried what your doing first with only 550 cc injectors and ALMOST a standalone, I used the AEM FIC-8 to control everything. I kept the MAF because i was thinking like you that i could make it work. I made it work okay at WOT but normal driving suffered espeically in situations where your going in boost then need to stop all of a sudden, the blow off valve dumps your air because you just closed the throttle plate and the MAF has no idea what happened to all that air and the car dies. Since your stopping theres no new air coming in over the maf or not nearly enough.
I'm running 13.5 second passes at 6000 ft on 440 cc injectors and the tt ecu mod with a cheap xs power turbo kit, i've replaced alot of it but the turbo and intercooler are there still.
Do you really think everyone is wrong telling you the stock computer wont be happy and you wont be happy? or are we all trying to help you save time and money? because we all already tried it lol
I still plan on going full AEM standalone but thats after i upgrade my transmission/turbo and am ready to push past my 350-400hp and push for 600 or 700 i've had the car running the xspower turbo and tt ecu for over 2 years and 15,000 miles already.

You my friend have no idea what you are getting yourself into!! Do not waste your time on piggyback. 98% of the guys here have tried it 15 years ago and it just doesnt work plain and simple.
Running e85 or E98 will not lean it out the right way..you will end up melting pistons.
Made 700whp on stock Ge headgasket , stock head bolts, un-opened GE motor with 170k miles...
One Advice though, if you cant afford to do it the first time, you definitely cant afford to do it wrong...because it will cost you more to fix it the second time around.
Good Luck with whatever direction you decide to go.
Before buying a standalone, I’m going to try to make the piggyback work because I already have it. To fix the issue of the piggyback not being able to go lean enough, I’m using a bigger, 1UZFE MAF housing. Theoretically, running E85 or E100 will also lean out the mixture as it is much less dense than gasoline (1.5 parts ethanol equals 1 part gas). To get more scientific, running a methanol/gasonline mixture while also adding a cosolvent (ethanol), will give you an even leaner mixture. Running straight methanol is difficult as it requires twice the fuel system parameters as gasoline and is also extremely corrosive. However, adding a cosolvent prevents it from separating in the mixture. While both alcohols, ethanol is distilled from organic matter while methanol is a product of carbon monoxide (it’s extremely poisonous).
