Old Starter.


Good evening, all. First time poster, long time reader.

My beloved has recently thrown a baffling curve. Have owned my LS430 for six years, and never an issue. The other day my wife drove it to work. Upon leaving, it wouldn't start. Based on the information relayed to me, all indicators read starter. Changed the starter yesterday myself, and upon further inspection my thoughts on the issue were solidified with visual of its ball bearings and pinion being uneven and off track. However, when the time came, it would not start. Dash lights, dings, steering wheel coming into place, all pre-start indicators were the norm, but never a crank. Instead, a constant buzzing(?) noise, as though the starter was trying to engage but never the actual crank attempt.
I'm at a loss. My father in law suspects the timing belt, but how is that possible when the problem originated from a cold start? Both the starter AND timing belt??
Any and all knowledge to this would be greatly appreciated.
